Cold calls

Has anyone else had a sudden increase in cold calls lately? In the last two weeks we've had several a day. I was working from home yesterday and had eight of the buggers.

I'm registered with the TPS and hadn't any cold calls for years and don't know why they've started again.

Am I being picked on or are there more aggressive marketers out there?

I do have sympathy for that view. But not the lying scrote who told me yesterday that it wasn't a cold call - even though he was calling from a company I'd never heard of offering service I don't want.

If people are honest and decent then, yes, they deserve to be treated with respect but if they're fundamentally dishonest, then sod 'em.

Fed up with them all If I am going to be honest with you. Get a lot of charity callers these days. They only want donation by direct debit and secondly these people are actually getting a salary from it. That does not sit comfortably with me.

I appreciate people have to work, but my view is when you do something for charity you do it for nothing, am I wrong?

Also keep getting loads of bags through asking for clothes. I don't trust these at all. I honestly think some of these clothes end up on ebay and if people are doing this I don't know how they can sleep at night.

I'm with the TPS too. I am getting 1 or 2 a week from 0 previously.
Two things could be contributing, I have recently turned 65, or they know about the TPS because they always start the call with you enquired or you filled out a survey with us. If it was true, which it never is it would negate the TPS involvement.

I've always found you need to re-register every year or so with the TPS. For whatever reason, after about a year I find the calls start up again.

If you re-register your details it should stop them.

If they persevere I then ask how they obtained my number, that really shifts them. Once though, one caller said that the TPS does not apply for callers dialing in from a foreign country.

I have worked in sales floors before and we had a girl who had this done to her. She ended up with permanent ear damage so we tracked the guy down using police and he was prosecuted and went to jail, not to mention what happened to the poof girl with damaged hearing.

By all means shout if you need to but please stop with the whistle.

If the campaign is for a UK company then TPS does count.

The best way to deal with this is to
quote TPS, then ask for company and personal details and say you are going to write to OffCom.

Will stop 99% of telemarketers in their tracks. The other 1% just hang up on.

Perhaps you could take the pea out of the whistle in order to find a happy medium.

Twice this week we've had some Asian callers telling us that our computer has been identified as having a serious virus. Trouble is the Mrs has got to the phone before me and she gives em some verbal shit.
Wish I could get it first, then they would get some serious verbals.

My dad had a call like that a few months ago, the bloke said that he was phoning from Microsoft and wanted to clear a virus and update the software. I was really worried that this sort of thing might start happening to my parents, they are in their 70's and must be considered vulnerable to this sort of scam. However, to my dad's credit, he asked the bloke for his Microsoft identity number and the name of his supervisor...the call was ended abrubtly from the other end. Perhaps this is the way to deal with them, rather than using a football whistle and risking legal action, make it sound to the caller that you are a threat to them in some way.

Oh I love that!

I'm always polite to the people and explain I'm not interested, but I would rather they remove me from their list. If you ever make the mistake of being interested they flag your details for more calls. I like the idea that a whistle might encourage them to stop calling.

One friend goes along with everything they're offering, saying 'that sounds great' etc, but when they ask for money or bank details he just says he hasn't got any, and really only wanted someone to talk to as he's lonely.

Unfortunately, yes. Charities will raise more money and provide better services by paying professionals, as well as using volunteers.
