Colchester's new stadium

(Well I presume it was.)

Had to go to Ipswich on Friday and as I passed the Colchester area on the A12 right out the blue in the middle of nowhere next to the southbound side was what looked like a 1/2 completed stadium. It ain't no Wembley, but hey it'll be their home.

The reason I'm posting is that I don't recall it being that long ago that they got the green light, so once the hat-hard boys get into Falmer I think (and hope) we'll be pleased with progress. To think of the wasted time getting this far still makes me wild though.

It was nice to see an old-fashioned ground right in the middle of town when I got into Ipswich.

I saw it the other week too, they'll need a few buses to get the fans out there.

Yeah that's what struck me as odd. No slip roads off the A12 and no obvious nearby rail station. Much more remote than Falmer, yet that's the best location it seems.

Looks shit, kind of think if you're going to build a new ground might as well do it properly

High up on the South Downs.
10 000 to small for a club trying to gain promotion surely
It's a good size for a club with a small but loyal fan base that has to fight for support against Ipswich (18 miles away) and West Ham (Essex's team). Bigger ground than Northampton's - a club that historically have been bigger. Will be much better than Layer Rd but will cause traffic chaos until the new junction on the A12 opens.

colchester are not a big club. They are playing in a division out of their depth at present, and once they settle back down into a lowly league 1 team this ground will be fine. Take northampton for example, their ground is quite big enough for the expectations the club has.
