Closure of A27 at Lewes this weekend

A warning to those of us in East Sussex who use the A27 to get to Withdean or its P & R sites, the A27 is scheduled for closure from this Fiday Night through to Monday morning for bridge maintenance just after the Southerham roundabout. Presume you will routed through Lewes which will add 30 minutes or so to your journey.

Went through there last Saturday (whilst the rest of you were enjoying the Villa game) and the queues heading into Lewes from the Brighton direction were MASSIVE.

No issues at all coming through the tunnel and heading West towards Brighton.

Oh, and there are no trains between Brighton and Lewes on Sunday.

Got caught up in traffic coming back from Ringmer around 13:00 last Sunday, long queues.

According to Argus closure now postponed because of conflict with rail closure traffic.

I'm not sure that it is the clash with the train shut-down that is the most important issue.

The Argus story didn't pick up on the BIG problem - the plan to divert by-pass traffic through Lewes at the same time as Lewes High Street is reduced to one-way working because BT are renewing the chambers that carry their cables down the middle of the street. The BT job will last for three weeks.

If that does happen at the same time as the by-pass is closed, it really will be CHAOS.
