This is one of mine - an exchange between BensGrandad and The Large One in 2008, when, in the depths of the financial crisis, the funding for Falmer debate was raging...

Fair play to BG

:moo:
But that's not a debate, it's a contradiction.

And there we have Dougs' life in a nutshell, on the internet at 4.50 in the morning poised and ready to highlight a grammatical or spelling error to try and gain some sense of superiority.

Sad man, sad life.

Doug's.

If I could be arsed, 2 debates I'd like to read again are ;

Richie's attempts to put the fanzine together and the plethora of well meaning comments of ''You might need help'' against 'I can do it all you know'' I don't think it ever reached the light of day but fair play to the quality of NWT which seemed light years away then.

''I'm gonna sell T-Shirts with FIXTURES written on them and I think they will sell like hot cakes''

Sad man, sad life.

It makes me laugh when people react. Perhaps you can explain why 4:50am is sadder than midday.

I started this thread on 7th November 2008

http://www.northstandchat.com/showt...ed-about-Falmer-finance-now&highlight=finance

Lots didn't believe me but this is what I said:

"Really worried about Falmer finance now
I work for a company that regularly raises finance for a variety of reasons, and projects. We never have a problem doing this and even in the current economic climate are considered a very safe bet.

However today our bank have told us they are no longer offering finance, not just to us but anyone. Basically it wouldn't matter what we did the finance would not be available.

We are a safe bet. Arguably a football club is not. Yes they will have an income generating asset once completed but its not exactly something a bank could easily sell if repayments were not forthcoming.

Basically I believe the whole one year delay thing is in preparation for not being able to CURRENTLY raise the funds. Unless a private investor stumps up all or a large part of the cost there is no way they will finance it in the current climate.

I am not normally scaremongerer and up to now believed finance of the stadium would not be a problem but sadly the world is a very different place now and thanks to Lewes District Council the club are trying to raise finance at probably the worst time in financing history.

It doesn't mean it won't be built but can't see how they can raise the finance through banks for some while. This may change in the new year or they may have a significant private investor waiting in the wings, but if not then don't expect the financing to be announced anytime soon."

In London village.
Other than those that had the inside info, why would anyone have thought Tony Bloom was likely to arrive on the scene ?

A multi-millionaire financing the stadium and injecting millions into the club was only predictable if people already knew about TB, IMO.

I can declare now that in 2007 there were whispers from a relative in the Bloom family, coming out saying not so much about financing the stadium but spending money on the team if and when we arrived in the Championship and all would be ok. Maybe Tony kept his cards closer to his chest even with family members or this relative was just putting small pieces of information that he knew out in the public domain. Either way it has all happened, so far as we know others in the Bloom buisness world would have had information on his plans because these things don't happen overnight.
