This from the Argus:

Claridge goes as Mac arrives
by Andy Naylor

Albion are signing centre forward Mark McCammon on a month's loan today to replace former Millwall team-mate Steve Claridge, who is on his way to Brentford.

Manager Mark McGhee's pursuit of McCammon has finally paid off and he will make his debut tomorrow night at home to Stoke.

Claridge, 38, has turned down the offer of a second month's contract with cash-strapped Albion to go to Brentford for the rest of the season.

McGhee said: "We have got to live with it. We have won two of the games Steve played for us and we cannot under-estimate his contribution, but we could only offer him a month in our financial situation and I totally respect him taking a deal for the rest of the season.

"We are very lucky this has coincided with Millwall being prepared to let McCammon come to us."

McCammon, 26, is linking up with McGhee for the second time. The Albion manager signed him for Millwall from Brentford and is hopeful the move could become permanent.

McCammon is out-of-favour with the Lions after requesting a transfer. He did not feature in their squad for Albion's 2-0 defeat last Saturday and will make his first start for two months against Stoke.

"I just want to get back playing and enjoying my football again," he said. "I have been in and out at Millwall and my fitness has dipped a little bit because I haven't played. I'm happy to be playing under Mark again and I want to show what I can do."

Sheffield United boss Neil Warnock today confirmed his interest in buying Albion captain Danny Cullip.

Goodbye Claridge,he will not be missed.

Bit harsh. Although he didn't score, he did a job for us. I won't forget him running himself to a virtual stand-still at West Ham.

Thanks Steve and good luck .

More to the point is the comment that we could only offer the OAP a month because of our "financial situation" after he had stated that he was not in it for the money. Hopefully, Backgammon will turn out to be just what we need and get his 1 month extended.

I woke up this morning and thought I heard Claridge and McCammon on their way to Brentford!!

Then I heard the story again 30mins later and thought Wo Hoo!!

Claridge did a good jop for us and we will all remember is efforts at West Ham. We would not have won that day if he were not playing. However, it did seem that he was not quite quick enough for this level. McCammon coming in is a step in the right direction. If he doesn't work out then we will need to look elsewhere for a similar loan. This will see us though Xmas and you never know we may even score more than one goal!!

Is McCammon the big Trevor Benjamin/Chris Iwelumo type player needed to bring out the best in Knight?

Can't say I thought Claridge could have lasted the remainder of the season at Championship level given his age ( ok for Dave Beasant, he spent most of his time standing still ) so hardly a surprise that he went for the most ' secure ' offer given the limited time left in his career.

Lets hope McGhee can bring the best out of the McGammon steak and that the fans give him a chance and don't jump on his back straight away.

Thanks Steve, as sneaky said I won't forget the part he played in the win at West Ham.

Well thanks Claridge for your hard work, all the best.

I welcome McGammonSteak in with open arms and unlike a majority on NSC I wont judge him until entirely on his Millwall days! Give the lad a chance and if he is shit by the end of this months loan spell then so be it
I'm a little concenred his fitness has "dipped" though, right now, especially over Xmas, we need our players at their peak performance wise.

And Cullip.....will you GO already :p
