Claridge goes as Mac arrives
by Andy Naylor
Albion are signing centre forward Mark McCammon on a month's loan today to replace former Millwall team-mate Steve Claridge, who is on his way to Brentford.
Manager Mark McGhee's pursuit of McCammon has finally paid off and he will make his debut tomorrow night at home to Stoke.
Claridge, 38, has turned down the offer of a second month's contract with cash-strapped Albion to go to Brentford for the rest of the season.
McGhee said: "We have got to live with it. We have won two of the games Steve played for us and we cannot under-estimate his contribution, but we could only offer him a month in our financial situation and I totally respect him taking a deal for the rest of the season.
"We are very lucky this has coincided with Millwall being prepared to let McCammon come to us."
McCammon, 26, is linking up with McGhee for the second time. The Albion manager signed him for Millwall from Brentford and is hopeful the move could become permanent.
McCammon is out-of-favour with the Lions after requesting a transfer. He did not feature in their squad for Albion's 2-0 defeat last Saturday and will make his first start for two months against Stoke.
"I just want to get back playing and enjoying my football again," he said. "I have been in and out at Millwall and my fitness has dipped a little bit because I haven't played. I'm happy to be playing under Mark again and I want to show what I can do."
Sheffield United boss Neil Warnock today confirmed his interest in buying Albion captain Danny Cullip.
