Sorry, we are talking about the same Christopher Nolan who wrote that piece of confused nonsense, Inception? Who also just ended a mediocre trilogy of Batman films with a piece of shit like Dark Knight Rises. No, you are quite wrong and need to educate yourself. Memento and Batman Begins are great his output since is pretty average at best. There are far better directors Nicholas Winding Refn? Andrew Dominik?

Drive is superb but it's Refn's first "big" film. He needs to make 5 films as good as The Prestige etc to even begin to compare.

Nolan is great because he's forcing intelligence back into big budget films, which are generally stupider than ever.

Inception was style over substance. Just a bad film. Batman Begins was very well done, The Dark Knight was overblown nonsense, highly praised for a rather annnoying turn by Heath Ledger and sold on hype. My point is, to hold Nolan up as the best director in ten years/his generation is ludicroous. It is the sort of thing someone who sees 4 films a year, all of them megabudget blockbusters says. Don't get me wrong,I like a good event movie but don't call them classics. Don't roll shit into little balls and call it anything else but shit in little balls.

Anyway, I not somone has declared Welcome to the Jungle as the best film of the last decade. I declare myself out.

Couldn't agree less. Find me another massive film as intelligent and interesting as Inception.

He appears to be bringing intelligence to the screen. He isn't, he's making some good films. Refn created the Pusher trilogy while nolan was squeezing spots on his funny face, 'nuff said.

You have to remember that only by perpetually taking a half a billion dollars or more per film could you be classed as a great director. Hence Michael Bay being a million times better than Powell & Pressburger. Hopefully, in a decade, Batman 3 will be up there with Titanic in Sight & Sound's alltime top 10, toppling something as shallow and foolhearted as Vertigo and Citizen Kane from the top of its ranks.

Inception isn't intelligent!! It's designed to make the average cinema goer feel like they are watching an intelligent film. Agree or don't agree, it neither makes you right nor me wrong. I can't name a film such as you request, I don'y believe there is one. Whilst there is writing such as In Bruge out there I shant be placing Nolan on my "Greatest" list.

The dialogue in his films are awful, far too Hollywood, but he is a good director, the kind of guy studios get in to make sure they will get a return on their money.

In Bruges is superb and proves that Farrell although a bit of a tosser sometimes in infact a bloody good actor.

Nope, none of them really grabbed my undivided attention.

Not a fan of Christian Bale at all.

I struggle to watch films with actors in that I know are completes wankers outside of their acting role.

Thus no Tom Cruise or Christian Bale films do it for me.

I must admit I agree with US, Bale is the best actor around at the moment. Defo seems a bit of a wally outside of acting, but many people who are on the top of their game seem to be that way.

The Prestige is your favourite but it's 'brilliant' instead of 'great'? Isn't that the wrong way round?

For me it goes awful, very bad, bad, average, m'eh, decent, good, very good, great, brilliant.

I'd've said 'near perfection' but when I was writing it, that felt like it was ridiculous hyperbole, but think The Prestige is probably my favourite film ever, not just my favourite nolan one.

I watched it for the second time the other day, I forgot how good it was.

I still think Memento and Dark Knight are his best too, but they are brilliant or great.

I still think you've got 'brilliant' and 'great' the other way around though.

Soory, but Danny Boyle has a far more impressive body of work behind him. IMHO, like.

Mmm, first two good. Sunshine and 127 Hours.
The Beach and Life Less Ordinary are pretty shit. Slumdog Millionaire is ok and quite interesting but in serious need of editing.

Your thoughts on Trainspotting? Really tough book to translate to the screen IMHO.
