Any ideas for a decent restaurant to book for Christmas Day in and around the B Hill / HH area. Was going to try the Oak Barn but they are closed

Friars Oak does a good Christmas dinner, or at least so I've been told, book early though as it is very popular.

I know someone who's been here the last couple of years and they speak very highly of the food and service.

Been to Friar's Oak for the last three Christmas Days.

Generally pretty good and it's within staggering distance home...

Noticed that the quantity of food reduced last year, gone a bit nouveau rather than hearty and the quality wasn't quite as good as previous years. To be honest had a couple of bad experiences there during this year (and have heard a few similar stories) so not sure if we're going back this Christmas, but there isn't much competition for the price in the area!

Example of last Christmas - pre-ordered a bottle of Merlot that we're partial to. It arrived almost frozen, straight from the cold store! So to fix the problem, they brought an ice bucket full of hot water to warm it up!! They quickly discovered that I was not impressed!

Thanks - not a lot of choice then really! I too have heard some bad reports about the Friars Oak recently.

the griffin in fletching is good,a bit pricey tho. the peacock in piltdown is very nice.

Heard that the fox and hounds in HH has recently changed hands and the food is rated..........

Can recommend this one but it is expensive and not really in the BH / HH staggering zone!
