A(nother) top striker has to be on Gus's list if we're to kick on next season and it ain't Wood imo ... in the squad perhaps and see how he develops, but not for a fee

Frustrated the hell out of me in the first half, but as has been said by some of the more sensible and balanced posters on this thread. The kid has done enough this season to earn our respect and thanks. I would be more than happy to have him back next season.

Always plenty of chat this time of the season about who we might get, who we might keep or let go. Overall, Wood has done a job for us and if we get promoted Tuesday and win the league, then he can rightly say he played his part. However, I would be a little dissapointed if we signed him for next season. I still think Barnes has more about him in striking terms.

The guy who sits next to me was moaning at Wood constantly for the first 12 minutes. So much so that I finally snapped "We've only played 12 minutes FFS, stop f***ing moaning about Wood". After that it was all "Well done Woody" and similar positive comments.

Now if only I can silence the gobshite near Papa Lazarou the last weeks of Withdean will be great.

Jesus, he's only 19. If we had a player come up from our youth team who'd contributed what Wood has done at only 19 years of age, we'd be demanding he be tied down to a long contract and putting a decent price on his head.

Because of his size, it's easy to forget he's only a kid in footballing terms. He's done a decent job for us this season, surprising most of us. Give him a break!
I thought he had a decent game and did well, then was replaced by another lad who did the same.

I just dont understand how someone that big and strong can be so weak in the air? Yes, you do have to remember he is only 19 but in 6 years time is he likley to improve so much that he is a threat in the air? I doubt it. Having said all that he does show his strength with the ball at his feet. Jury definately out for me!

He's only young, but has a lot to learn and really should make better use of his physical presence.

Back next season? Probably 'yes'......

Christ on a bike, we are on the verge of promotion with 5 games spare so let's find a player to have a moan about
I think Gus has proved by now he knows what he's doing having got us this far tbh and I think we are in very good hands.

I'm not moaning about him at all, everyone has good days, less good days and bad days. In my opinion the whole squad have performed magnificently this season, and in all my 30 years of supporting there haven't been many better seasons, We're on to break the 100 point barrier and not many can claim that so fantastic performance. That said some changes are inevitable if we're to seriously attempt to fulfil some pretty heady ambitions. Inevitably we'll see as a few fresh faces next season (some bought some on loan) so some of the guys that have done the job for us this year are going to have to make way ... that's how we progress surely? Wood has started a lot for us this year ... I'm not sure he'll get as much opportunity next year, and there'll be 3 or 4 others also needing to make way I think.

It's not knocking anyone and if you look at what managers say at contract renewal time a consistent theme is how difficult it is for them to convey to someone that's worked their socks off that they aren't part of there future plans.

I like him alot and would definetly like to see him back next season, however we was not great today but at least in the 1st half he was being marked very closely-more than once he was sandwiched between 2 defenders and he nearly always had 1 right on top of him.

Is it just me or is Chris Wood just a bit of a lump? Having watched him all season thought today summed him up, no first touch, slow, doesn't win enough in the air and misses too many chances (accept pens - respect for that). He had a free header a start of the second half from a Nooney cross and didn't even connect with it. Am I the only one thinking that he will be no way good enough next year or am I being a bit harsh? Gus obviously rates him.

No, l think u are absolutely right, an ok-ish player at our level, but deffo out of his depth in the Championship, disappointing for such a big man he cant hold the ball up a lot better, too easily knocked off it as well. Ash Barnes iis a much better prospect, and doesnt have the turning circle of the Titanic either lol.

Very nice L1 player currently but not Prem class it's clear at mo tho that shouldn't do him down. Might not be Murray (this year playing for contract in good team) or CMS standard but see him having a good career. He's only 19 so fully expect him to be a nice Champ player and do New Zealand proud. Rory Fallon has had a decent career I think hasn't he around that standard?

Some times this board really worries me. He is anything but a lump, his heading could be improved but I'm sure that will get better. The way he gets space and brings the ball down on his chest is pure quality

"Their front three are a handful - especially Wood, the lad on loan from West Brom..." - Gary Megson

What does Gary Megson know about good footballers?

I've only seen Wood play twice, thinking about it, but he scored (sort of) against Leyton Orient when I saw him the first time and thought he looked alright the second time. He seems the sort of player who is better playing in a good team. If we'd had him a couple of years ago, when struggling, I don't think we would have taken to him because we would have been more relying on him to produce. The pressure is off in this team, he has a good partner in Murray and is getting good service from the best midfielders we've had since the back to back Title winning seasons.
