I remember when we signed CMS and everyone was buzzing about where we were heading.

But in hindsight, we'd probably say that was a mistake wouldn't we? We got giddy and chucked too much money at it when we had a better option in our midst.

Out of interest, have you ever seen the film "Moneyball?" Our transfer policy know bears all the hallmarks of this policy, it's about extracting hidden value rather than chucking massive money at it.

You know that's how Liverpool got themselves in such a plight a couple of seasons ago. When Henry took over at Liverpool his team tried to use the same system for buying players, Downing statistically provided the most goal scoring opportunities from the wing whilst Andy Carroll had the highest conversion rate from crosses. What could go wrong

I can go very right though. It's what turned Lyon into a dominant force in French football for the best past of a decade, and it hasn't hurt Porto either. In the era of FFP, it seems a bloody sensible way of doing things.

More or less the same number of goals as Ulloa last season, in a team as bad as Barnsley? Doesn't sound too bad to me, certainly not for £500K.

agree, looks like a good buy at that price. Key thing now is to use the Ulloa "war chest" ( please can Bloom or Barber tell us that the Ulloa money will be spent on new players) to bring in some much needed quality. We need two more strikers; badly need some flair and guile, so a winger, and a creative midlfielder are essential, players who can run with the ball, pick a pass and take a set piece; then a keeper and left-back as the bare minimum. Over to you Mr Bloom et al.

Barnsley are not due back from their pre-season tour in the Italian Alps until Tuesday but O'Grady has flown back early to finalise his switch to the Amex. The centre-forward is expected to complete a £500,000 move to the Seagulls on a three-year contract, subject to passing a medical.

From a Barnsley supporting mate: "Yes, was good last year in a poor team. Bit slow but a good target man."

Almost certainly a replacement for Ashley Barnes as a squad player. And sounds good enough to fulfill that role.

The real question is who will be the replacement for Ulloa? But thats another thread.

He'll be nice and calm and relaxed for the last five minutes then

I doubt very much that Tony Bloom will declare his hand as you hope. Why alert other clubs about our transfer budget? Sure, they can guess, but we don't have to make their job easier when we're negotiating fees.
