I think in the end the problem with CH was that he imbude our players with a sense of inferiority telling them other teams were very good. It left to playing football with fear.

I don't entirely disagree; however, for the most part. They were inferior players in comparison to what they were up against. If I recall. Only Pascal Gross, Lewis Dunk and Solly March really cemented themselves as PL players. Recruitment in first few years in the PL wasn't the best but that's understandable because back then. A club just promoted from the Championship doesn't have the same budget as one whose had 2 years PL TV money does.

Look at the youngster everyone wanted to be played coz he was scoring goals in U18s for fun. I think there is vindication in him getting virtually no game time. Aaron Connolly. I saw him a couple of times at Millwall last season. Wasn't pretty. The only youngster he did give any game time to. Well there's other top English clubs about to throw about £50m or more for his services now. I don't think he's worth £50m but 119 goals in 132 matches is dictating what Victor Gyokeres is worth right now.

I seem to recall reading that Trossard said around the time of his signing that he would not have signed if CH had been the manager? I also seem to remember Webster was a Potter inspired signing, there were plenty of raised eyebrows on here, at the time, that we had paid over 20 million for a Championship defender.

Anyway I find it sad that he has never been a guest of honour at the Amex since his sacking. He would undoubtably get a massive round of applause. Who knows if it’s CH or TB or even a mix of both that has stopped this happening. It’s an odd one given what he did for us.
It is odd but maybe he's been invited a few times and has declined - if that's the case he probably wouldn't say.
Perhaps in years to come CH will receive the Dick Knight award with unlimited Bloomy hugs 🤗

You continue to be as reasonable and measured as CH appears to be, no wonder you are long time mates

Good to see you posting again.

Have to say he showed that that if your are a genuine nice person far less likely to get criticism because so many games were dire. At the time he was the right manager foe us . Do see older managers have been left behind and are just looked on as keeping sides safe I heard an interview with Houghton when DeZerbi was here and he described him as very brave how he played.
Will be interesting to see how Moyes does at Everton He will put defence first but WH supporters were not happy finixhing 6/8th and playing crap football.

I would say that with the players he had and his experience, he knew second season syndrome would hit and did what was needed to stay up..ironically we were doing much better (up to 10th follwoing 3 one nil wins in a row late autumn) when he came under pressure to be more expansive and cue a dismal run, punctuated with wins against Huddersfield and Palace, culminating in the 5nil Bournemouth and 2-0 Cardiff defeats. After that he went back to pragmatism which was the draws away at wolves, home to Newcastle, away at arsenal and the narrow defeat at spurs

Also needs to be said i don't believe we were ever in the prem relegation zone in his 2 seasons there

In retrospect, I feel that he didn't really fully buy into the club's model.
Similar to Poyet, he seemed to believe the club had a ceiling, and that the only way to compete in the top flight is to play with the best players.

He was a fantastic coach and a lovely man, but we needed a Potter to push on from where we were.
Much as I vehemently disagreed with the decision at the time

We’ve been in the relegation zone once in our entire PL history. After our second ever game when we lost to Leicester, an away draw to Watford the following week lifted us out the bottom 3 and we’ve never been back.

After that Leicester game their bbc local radio Leicester city reporter decided to go after is on social media saying we were awful and woupd definitely go down, potentially with lower points than Derby.

We’d beaten that Derby points total before the end of October. Got to love making someone eat humble pie.

Stick him along side Jake Humphrey

Fantastic in the Championship and he did what was required to stay up in the first season in the Premier League. In his final season, he sadly seemed to have lost the ability to motivate the players. The 5-0 (could have been ten) v Bournemouth was absolutely shocking. I am not totally in the 'we were absolutely awful to watch' camp, as it wasn't all dull and we did have some great moments (that Izquierdo goal v Stoke comes to mind), but it was clear that TB wanted a more progressive style of football after those two seasons and it was time to move on.
And the midweek home defeat to Cardiff

I remember people coming to me at the gym and saying it was outrageous we'd parted ways with CH after all he'd done, but Tony knew things couldn't continue.

As a human being, do they come much better than Chris in football? A really nice guy, maybe just was too nice

And the midweek home defeat to Cardiff

I knew he was going to go after that game. The drubbing by Bournemouth required a reaction - we *had* to beat Cardiff. I remember we started the game OK and the players looked up for it, but we got worse as the match went on. Losing at home to a relegation rival a few days after being completely outclassed by Bmuff - he was a goner.
