I think in the end the problem with CH was that he imbude our players with a sense of inferiority telling them other teams were very good. It left to playing football with fear.

I don't entirely disagree; however, for the most part. They were inferior players in comparison to what they were up against. If I recall. Only Pascal Gross, Lewis Dunk and Solly March really cemented themselves as PL players. Recruitment in first few years in the PL wasn't the best but that's understandable because back then. A club just promoted from the Championship doesn't have the same budget as one whose had 2 years PL TV money does.I think in the end the problem with CH was that he imbude our players with a sense of inferiority telling them other teams were very good. It is odd but maybe he's been invited a few times and has declined - if that's the case he probably wouldn't say.I seem to recall reading that Trossard said around the time of his signing that he would not have signed if CH had been the manager? I also seem to remember Webster was a Potter inspired signing, there were plenty of raised eyebrows on here, at the time, that we had paid over 20 million for a Championship defender.
Anyway I find it sad that he has never been a guest of honour at the Amex since his sacking. He would undoubtably get a massive round of applause. Who knows if it’s CH or TB or even a mix of both that has stopped this happening. It’s an odd one given what he did for us.
You continue to be as reasonable and measured as CH appears to be, no wonder you are long time matesI don't entirely disagree; however, for the most part. Look at the youngster everyone wanted to be played coz he was scoring goals in U18s for fun. I think there is vindication in him getting virtually no game time. Aaron Connolly. I saw him a couple of times at Millwall last season. Wasn't pretty. The only youngster he did give any game time to. Well there's other top English clubs about to throw about £50m or more for his services now. I don't think he's worth £50m but 119 goals in 132 matches is dictating what Victor Gyokeres is worth right now.
I would say that with the players he had and his experience, he knew second season syndrome would hit and did what was needed to stay up..ironically we were doing much better (up to 10th follwoing 3 one nil wins in a row late autumn) when he came under pressure to be more expansive and cue a dismal run, punctuated with wins against Huddersfield and Palace, culminating in the 5nil Bournemouth and 2-0 Cardiff defeats. After that he went back to pragmatism which was the draws away at wolves, home to Newcastle, away at arsenal and the narrow defeat at spursI don't entirely disagree; however, for the most part. We’ve been in the relegation zone once in our entire PL history. After our second ever game when we lost to Leicester, an away draw to Watford the following week lifted us out the bottom 3 and we’ve never been back. Also needs to be said i don't believe we were ever in the prem relegation zone in his 2 seasons there
After that Leicester game their bbc local radio Leicester city reporter decided to go after is on social media saying we were awful and woupd definitely go down, potentially with lower points than Derby. We’ve been in the relegation zone once in our entire PL history. We’d beaten that Derby points total before the end of October. Got to love making someone eat humble pie. After that Leicester game their bbc local radio Leicester city reporter decided to go after is on social media saying we were awful and woupd definitely go down, potentially with lower points than Derby.
And the midweek home defeat to CardiffFantastic in the Championship and he did what was required to stay up in the first season in the Premier League. In his final season, he sadly seemed to have lost the ability to motivate the players. The 5-0 (could have been ten) v Bournemouth was absolutely shocking. I am not totally in the 'we were absolutely awful to watch' camp, as it wasn't all dull and we did have some great moments (that Izquierdo goal v Stoke comes to mind), but it was clear that TB wanted a more progressive style of football after those two seasons and it was time to move on.
