The man seems to be everywhere at the moment. Started the Radio 2 breakfast gig earlier today. Which is infinitely better than it's predecessor.

I'm also halfway through his autobiography which I got for Christmas. Have to say he appears to be a classic example of, 'What doesn't break you makes you'. He seems to have grown up from his crazy 90's days.

Anyway, makes a change from the Villa and snow..

used to listen to Radio London in about 1990. saturday mornings consisted of Danny Baker followed by Chris Evans. Made working saturdays a bit easier.

Despite not having any reason to get up today I actually set my alarm to go off so I could catch the start of this new era and I have to say I was most pleasantly surprised. He kicked off with TWO classic Beatles tracks and then some Frank Sinatra. Now THAT is exactly what I want to wake up to in the morning, not Jay-Z and all the other shouty bollocks you get with Chris Moyles on Radio 1.

Radio 2 has the biggest and most varied playlist of any radio station in the country and as a result I can stomach its output a lot more than I can any of the commercial stations or the chart obsessed Radio 1.

I never got on with Wogan's breakfast show as it never seemed to manage to wake me up HOWEVER I can see myself becoming a regular listener of Evans' new breakfast show as it was innocent, charming and pleasant whilst playing songs that I didn't immediately hate.

It was Evans who used to wake me up on Radio 1 when I was a yout, getting ready for school, and whilst there is a history of Radio 1 DJ's getting older and making the switch to Radio 2 it has to be said that given his 90s antics you wouldn't have put money on his ever making the same switch but age has clearly mellowed him and the BBC's gamble has obviously paid off.

I hope it carries on so promisingly as I've been crying out for a half decent radio show to get me up in the mornings for many a year now.

Good luck to him and here's to plenty more Beatles tracks making the airwaves enjoyable once more.

I never used to like him much at all, but he seems to have got better. I woldnt mind a read of his book.... he unlike Gazza seems to have learnt from his mistakes.

Funny...i set my alarm early as well. And reading various 'tweets', messages etc it seems that quite a few others did as well.
And i thought it was terrific.. great music and i loved his line after playing Sinatra..." I told you that you could trust me ".
Its different than Wogan...not as quiet and sleepy. But great to have the lovely Moira Stewart back..lovely voice for early morning. Great start.

I swear there is a whole generation of people who have been crying out for this move. The people who are sick of Moyles, have outgrown him or never liked him in the first place but who weren't going to switch to old man Wogan who was just a little too much like accepting you were getting past it.

This is the logical solution. A varied selection of half decent music and some harmless yet entertaining banter to go with it. Very light hearted and MOR without being too over the hill

It will be interesting to see how the listener figures compare between Evans and Moyles over the next few months, I predict people switching over to the ginger one in their droves...all those who are bored of the studio full of sycophants pandering up to Moyles and his constant piss-taking of Aled for being gay, but doing it in a really pally way as if they are best buddies and it is all a bit of a joke...no you ignorant northern monkey it is called homophobia!
