Chippy an excellent midfielder? No, I don't think so

He is not an inspiring player, but he is consistent, does the job asked of him and knows, unlike Oatway, what he is doing. The last few seasons he has been the most consistent player at the club, one of the few that held his own for the whole Div 1 campaign.

Where he looks dodgy is when he is playing with Oatway as he carries him and ends up doing the work of 2 midfielders. When he played in the same side as Jolly, he looked much better as there was a class player alongside him and so his workload was less.

This isn't a dig at Carpenter, I like him as a player, perhaps I should have said we haven't had a decent attacking midfielder since Minton. Someone with skill and pace when needed to beat players and scores goals (someone now will probably dig out Minton's scoring record for BHA ;) )

Fearful we are going to get over-run in midfield, once the opposition has run past Mr Oatway/Carpenter/Rodger (if fit)/Reid they'll not be catched...

I think it's already been said that Chippy won't be fit to start the season (gulp). It's going to be a tough old ride without our best forward and best midfielder.

Chippy will be fit for the start of the season

Phew! Fingers crossed, but he'll do well to come back from that injury and go straight into the first team at Reading - look at Reid's sluggish progress back from his injury.
