I would be very surprised if Oatway gets anywhere near the squad with Chippy, Hinshelwood, Hammond and Nicholas all fighting for the centre mid places and when (or if) Rodger comes back he'll be even furthur away from the first XI. Which is nice.

Depends on the game. I can see Charlie being given the job of man marking and winding up Ince when we play Wolves.

We've got a good squad now and it'll probably get rotated depending on the opposition.

Excellent news about carpenter, and mcphee. with oatway and rodger, not sure whats going to happen to our midfield, but i would like to see Currie Carpenter Nicolas Jarrett, with rodger on the bench, or maybe rodger in the middle moving nicolas on to the left.

Are you seriously saying youd swap Oatway for Nicolas? :jester:

Err no. Note the words "part of a Saturday Squad" Oatway is good to have on the bench though.

But he is great, so obvious that he is our best midfielder. I mean just because he cannot pass or keep up with the play does not matter, like Paula Radcliffe he tries his hardest, so that is fine.

What I don't quite understand is your obsession in knocking Oatway? It's not as if we haven't heard your disparaging view 50 million times now? Why treat a great club servant like this? It's pretty sad. Doesn't he deserve more?

For the record, I think it will be tough call whether both Chippy and Oatway are brought back together, because McGhee will be wary about the match fitness of both and both Nicolas and Hammond are in the swing of things. Should be a fascinating selection now and a good headache for McGhee.

Interesting headache will be if he gets Carpenter and Rodger back, Oatway well, if he is as good in the dressing room as people say, get him on the coaching courses and use those talents, just keep him off the pitch.

To be fair UB is hardly alone on this board in his criticisms (always constructive, might I add) of Oatway.

I don't think anyone would deny what a great servant for the club Oayway's been, but most people seem to agree that he's really no more than a squad player when things are stretched now.

There's no witch hunt going on, it's just fact.

When available i expect Carpenter and Rodger to play.

Remember Nicolas is only a 3 month loan at the moment.

That money will be used elsewhere if we have Oatway Rodger Carpenter and Hammond available in the middle of the park.

However they have stated that they want to get Nicolas down here long term if not permanetly. It makes sense as he is quality and Rodger, Chippy and the park footballer are all the wrong side of 30 and so not going to go on that much longer.

Umm, not having a good day and still have no idea how to get to Heathrow after a skin full.

Back to the point, Nicolas has to be a player we chase as the core of our central midfield is getting old together and we need to start to be looking at long term replacements, rather than having to change the whole lot in one go. Evolution and all that.

Agreed UB i would love us to sign Nicolas permenantly.

As you say those 3 are getting on a bit. No harm in having a couple of them around though. Carpenter must have a couple of years left in him yet, and the middle of the park is not a position i would want to many young players operating in.

Nicholas is a definite long term replacement for Chippy and, in my opinion, will turn out a much better player. After taking a couple of games to settle in he is now looking extremely useful and will only get better. His ball winning and distribution are skills are up there already at this early stage in his career, he is exactly the type of player we need to be signing and all praise to McGhee and Knight for bringing him in and hopefully making it a permanent signing.

Now to be fair, Uncle Buck did manage to contain himself for two minutes after your original message. :jester:
