Did you really think that Hull were rather poor?
On another note, since Hull moved into the KC stadium we've never scored a single goal there let alone won a match. Similarly the MK Dons stadium. What an odd thing?

Certainly Hull's defence was nothing special, we cut through them at will and as suggested if our lot had their shooting boots we would be purring over a great Albion victory. Hull do offer more of a threat going forward but our defence coped well apart from the goal.

Strange that we've never scored at the KC, its not for want of trying - we had a lot of chances last season on a pig of a pitch. Maybe The MK Dons are a bit of a bogey team though.

I like to think that we cut through their defence at will because we were playing well but then maybe I was being deluded.

Plenty of names have been banded about in recent weeks, not least that of Amex pantomime villain in chief Glenn Murray. The fact is, had Poyet done more to convince Murray to stay put, he probably wouldn’t have needed to splash the cash on Mackail-Smith to start with.

They've got that bit completely the wrong way round.

No, you are not deluded. As acknowledged in my original post we played really, really well but their midfield also went missing for big chunks of the game and their defence was so vulnerable to pace (as it was last season), which we managed to exploit but not punish. However the performance was a great response to the Swindon result and we certainly didn't go to the KC looking for a draw as we might, which was a breath of fresh air.

Looking at the bigger picture if we are ambitious I don't see Hull being among the top six sides who we should really be looking to compare and compete with. So IMHO we should have been capable of opening Hull up, even at their place. Will be interesting to see if we can cut through Cardiff in the same way?

Both games against Hull were 0-0 last season whereas we put 5 past Cardiff.

"Ashley Barnes wasted two good chances, first dilly dallying on the ball after latching on to an enticing pass and then heading over from an unmarked position in the centre of the goal after a teasing right wing cross from the improved Craig Noone"

And he gave Barnes a 5 again, the lowest mark for the second game running.

The man's a genius

Good article.

One point Id make concerns the comment about context.

" This, lest we forget, is the same Bellamy who funds charitable trusts in Africa, represented Team GB at the Olympics – the same Team GB Mackail-Smith turned down the chance to represent – and has turned his back on a higher wage to join his hometown club.

As is often the case in football, perhaps a little bit of context was needed."

I would suggest in reference to the CMS / Olympics issue perhaps a little missing context would be the likely pressure applied from SFA not to take part. Probably difficult to ignore when you're only just establishing yourself in the Scottish setup.
