Two cracking sides, with some great players. f***ing embarrasing to watch them constantly rolling around holding their legs after a tackle, and the game having to stop for five minutes because someone had been pushed over. Pathetic. I'm sorry, but that is the way football is going and it is shit. I am not a fan of rugby at all, but you don't see their games having to be stopped for a team of medics to be driven on to the pitch in a buggy to provide 'treatment' to a player who has been pushed over.

Ruined the game completely, I really wonder if they realise how pathetic they look to the average person watching the telly.

Rant over.

I agree, it was pretty f***ing annoying wonnit. Stricter punishments need to be put in place for trying intimidate the referees too. It's just a shame the authorities are f***ing useless and won't do anything about it.

Couldn't agree more... It got to the point were I actually switched over and f***ed the game off in favour of watching Soccer Special to get the JPT scores!!!

If they are two of the best teams in the world then they should bloody act like it because from what I saw last night the only thing they are the best in the world at is floor mat gymnastics.

I would like to see the referees copying their rugby counterparts. For each individual incident - talk to just the captains of both sides and the offenders. All the other players to be sent back to their half. Zero tolerance is needed and citing after the game with bans.

It is ruining the beautiful(?) game and last night, there were more breaks than a bloody test match!

Art Deco seemed to be in an extortionate amount of pain until he had the ball kicked at him and he was on his feet lickety split!

To be fair to Chelsea, Drogba seems to have stopped theatrically throwing himself at defenders feet - and he is finally living up to his transfer fee. I hated him, but now his quality is shining. Great game, but yes, spoiled by divers.

That was amusing! Why use an ice spray or a bucket and sponge to 'cure' an injury, when smacking the ball at a player seems to work a treat!?

Have to agree. The worst incident was a foul in the second half on Deco. He rolled round like a spun marble right until John Terry kicked the ball at him (getting booked). Cue Deco immediately getting to his feet immediately to remonstrate. Not so injured after all then?

Maybe I'm still bitter after the World Cup but for me the Portuguese are the worst in the world for diving and play acting.

I'd also point out (and Carles Puyol was particularly guilty of this last night), this f***ing awful practice of players surrounding the referee and waving their arms around, trying to pressure him into showing cards.

It's ridiculous and needs to be stopped.

It is sad but true.

Needs to be looked into seriously by the footballing authorities as people are getting sick and tired of it. At the end of the day it's us attending games and watching on TV that pay the wages of these footballers and I don't think people are prepared to keep putting up with it.

Interestingly there was a thread on NSP yesterday, before the game, about how football is getting boring for exactly this reason.

I seem to recall there was a big investigation earlier this year into crowd numbers decreasing overall in this country. It's hardly surprising is it?

Carry on like this and football will eat itself

Yes, players on both sides were guilty of theatrics.

Yes, there were a few poor challenges.

Yes, the ref was a bit weak with let things get a little out of control.

Yes, Puyol was an arse.

BUT....it was still brilliant. The most absorbing match I have seen on TV this season.

Astonishing goal from Lampard too, who had his best game in months.

Any player waving an imaginary card at the ref should be yellow carded instantly for unsporting conduct.

The players do not respect the ref or more importantly do not respect what the ref is trying to achieve, which is ensure that the game should run smoothly. He cannot do this without the buy in of the players. Rugby players know this, they know that if they don't 'help' the ref then they are going to have a crap game. I played Rugby and I hated games that were stop start, I wanted the game to flow as it made it easier and more enjoyable.
You can play 11-a-side in the park without a ref, however you can't play rugby without a ref. In rugby the ref is arguably the most important person on the pitch.
I once witness a player calling a ref a 'cheating bastard', the ref sent him off, his captain apologised to the ref for his behaviour (as did some of his team mates) and the Warwickshire RFU latter band him for 12 months

Secondly, there is a 'macho' thing about Rugby where the last thing you want to do is let the opposition know that they have hurt you. I'd rather play on than role around on the deck, I'd want to make the statement that you'll have to try harder next time.

Basically until the players/managers and to a certain degree the fans, treat the ref with respect then nothing will change.
