Posts like this are clear evidence sportswashing works. .

could look like that. i have looked a bit beyond that and, as russian businssmen go, he doesnt seem to fit the sterotype that other have made. in particular his time as regional governor and positive effects on their economy.

Millions of Russians, many of them poor by any meaningful measure will through no fault of their own be feeling the pinch of sanctions.

A million Ukraines already displaced, many murdered in war crimes, millions more suffering through no fault of their own. Towns and cities reduced to rubble.

Russian oligarch, not subject to sanctions because he doesn't seem to fit a stereotype and maybe an okay guy...

What if it also has a submerged dock for clandestine scuba divers and underwater vehicles to disembark under cover of night? Would that compensate?

The Dullard did say the difficulty with valuing Chelsea is how much the Abramovich companies have propped them up, often to the tune of £250m per year. Across a 10 year period they had losses something like £800m. That is recorded losses, that doesn't take into account the money Abramovich puts in that is recorded as income through sponsorships, hospitality etc. Their ground is old, short on capacity and facilities. Their wage bill is enormous. It would be like buying an asset you can afford to buy but cannot afford to run or maintain.

He has to write off his loans because effectively the amount of his loans is how much the purchaser will need to put in to maintain the club at it's present level over the same period of time Abramovich has. Here's a 2 billion pound asset that will cost you 2 billion to run it over 20 years. Bargain Hunt...

Ha ha like he’s going to be giving away billions - that’s hilarious.

I have not been following the Chelsea story, but why is he being allowed to sell off his assets? I thought Oligarchs like him were having their assets frozen and being given travel bans?

It's awaiting work, that's no good. I wanted to take it to Newcastle.

they havent. most the sanctions across UK, EU and US are on politicans and army, with a handful or so of oligarchs.

Not sure Everton (Dodgy Russian owner) West Ham (Porn proceeds) and Newcastle are very good examples.

Yes, there have been changes in recent times but for the bulk of the 19 years since Abramovich took charge at Chelsea you've had theatre impresario Bill Kenwright, retail magnate Mike Ashley and tabloid pornographers Sullivan / Gold in charge of those other clubs. I'm not aware that any of them laundered money, have links to organised crime or have profited from assets stolen from the Russian people.

Staveley, speaking at the Financial Times Business of Football Summit, also faced questions about Newcastle's relationship with Saudi Arabia, following the club's Saudi-backed takeover.

She said: "We're always going to have geopolitical issues.

"I'm really sad that someone is going to have a football club taken away because of a relationship he may have with someone.

"I don't think that's particularly fair to be honest. But we do have to hold all of our relationships to account."

Ye course we do Amanda

Strange false equivalence - lumping the West Ham owners in with the Saudi regime because they sold a few dildos.
