Following an unfortunate right wing rant in the Worthing Sentinel by our local SCR pundit/newspaper columnist about chav's, we now have a new official NSC definition for CHAV:

That is what I heard Scotty M and living in Gloucester it gives me great pleasure to remind Cheltionians of that precise fact.

I had also heard that it came from a Romany word "chavver", which apparently means mate.

Fictional Sunday Tribune diarist "Ross O'Caroll Kelly" was using "CHV" (council house vermin) as a term of insult from the late 1990s, long time before I heard "Chav" being used....
