Sadly that means flip all these days. Crowborough (2 steps (well 1 as of next season) below Lewes) have had several players towards the end of the season on trial all of which have agents. County league footballers with agents!! Crazy world we live in!

Reports this week that the father/agent of Dominic Solanke, an eighteen year old Chelsea striker with one senior appearance in England to his name, is demanding a new contract for his son to the tune of £50,000 per week.

His first professional contract, signed when the boy was only 17, pays him a meagre seven grand a week, so you can understand why he feels like he needs that extra £43k every Friday. Poor lad.

My question is why do people assume in cases like this that we aren't looking?

Also, just because Arsenal and Chelsea look at these lads, it doesn't necessarily mean they are going to make the grade. The big clubs have the biggest failure rate in producing players who make the grade in football.

That's partly because the competition for places is greater at those clubs but not only success at their club. They have a really big failure rate on players who do not even make it when they drop down the leagues. So their scouts are just individuals opinions.

Even when they get them in they sometimes don't recognise talent. Just look at players like De Bruyne, Paul Pogba and Lukaku all let go by top clubs.

Quite. I read an article earlier this week in light of Chelsea's FA Youth Cup win, examining the XIs of the winning squads over the past twenty years. Some of the squads, particularly at the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea, had a staggeringly high failure rate. Even the most talented of lads sometimes fail for reasons other than footballing ability.

You will be delighted to learn that one of OUR first year scholars had his own logo designed for him, via his agent, early this season. It incorporates his initials and the number of the position he usually plays. He uses it on his social media profiles.

This occurred back in November, when he had made a grand total of 5 starts for our U-18 team.

He didn't actually come from Real Madrid. He is from Las Palmas, and played for Union Deportiva Las Palmas and AD Huracan.

I think there was a Spanish newspaper report stating that Real Madrid were interested in him some time ago. That was probably it.
