[Football] Charging for Birthday Announcements

It seems that Leicester have stopped announcing Birthdays at the stadium following people asking for shout outs to Breneda Nout, Zac Rodgers (lol) and have REFUNDED those already arranged

I thought this was a joke a bit like the prank "Mike Hunt" jokes but is apparantly true-and if so its hilarious that they have had to stop them,

A couple of questions though- 1, why cant they just weed out the joke ones-its not rocket science, and 2, do they really charge for it?

Does anyone know if Brighton charges for reading out messages at half time-if not does Barber realise what a money making scheme he is missing out on?

I have my great aunt Betty Swallocks mentioned at the Goldstone way back.
No issues there

I've called Barber and this is his response:

Dear XXXX

Thank you very much for reaching out to me on this matter.

At Brighton & Hove Albion we are about to implement a new system covering this, as it's very much on our radar and has been asked frequently. Birthday announcements will be £15, but the birthday boy/girl has to be a member. If he/she isn't, then it's an extra £5. However, should that birthday person reciprocate and have your name read out, they will receive a discount of £1.50p on the price. Unless they're not a season ticket holder in which case that discount is only £1, and you would get an extra 50p at the club shop.

In addition to this pricing structure, we offer a price reduction of £5 should you wish your birthday announcement to be read out 45 minutes after the match is completed (except Sunday afternoon games when that reduction will be £6)

Yours faithfully,
Paul Barber

A few years ago my wife and I were at the Amex on our wedding anniversary. At the time we were running a specialist shrimp restaurant in Costa Rica and I'd been given the nickname "Don Camaron" by friends. Camaron means shrimp in Spanish and the nickname was supposedly a play on the name Don Corleone. I wrote to the club and asked if they'd do a halftime announcement saying something along the lines of "Happy Anniversay, love Don Camaron" but didn't hear anything back. Anyway, upon arriving at our seats there were some Albion scarves (nice touch Albion!) and a card saying "Happy Anniversary, love Don". My wife looked at me blankly asking "Who the f*ck's Don?"

Pffft - this is clearly a fake.

Barber would charge by the letter.

I seem to recall back in the Goldstone days probably mid 80s - there was some sort of joke shout out to Joey Deacon -pretty bad taste as he was an old boy with severe cerebral palsy who used to feature on Blue Peter

You forgot the £1.50 online booking fee.
But as with Don, my Daughter arranged a shout for my 60th and the club had a bag on my seat with a scarf and other goodies.
Whilst we take the mick, in reality they do a superb job.

Will there be a facility to transfer your birthday or birthday announcement to a fellow supporter?

Only if they have the same birthday. but given there are 365 days in a normal year and a ground capacity of around 31,000, there should be getting on for 100 people in any crowd who share your birthday

Seems we don't. If you're logged in go to Tickets, Help & Info, Info and request an announcement from there.

Do you know, that's something I've never thought about but that's extraordinary. I wonder what the most common birthday was at the Spurs match and to be honest, I will be thinking abut that for most of the afternoon.

I think October is a busy month for birthdays as well. It’s all those cold January nights.
My wife and two of our three children and two grandchildren are this month… oh well I’d better get back to work and make some money

Albion started charging for a variety of packages for kids to be mascots quite a while ago now (not something i support tbh although a couple of packages per game are kept back for "free" via Albion in the Community) . Most of the PL do likewise. A few clubs have held out. This year - they're back in person for the first time post covid.

They've already sold out for the entire season.

Agreed. We joke but the Albion have a good track record in doing things like this and i think all the shout outs in the programme for example - are just first come first served. I know i sorted one for my Dad in the season just before Covid.

Did you reach any conclusions?
I think it is almost certainly September something. Unless there's some astrological thing that makes people with a certain zodiac sign very horny about football - who knows?

How was the date? At least it would be July baby if you weren’t careful
