With Chelsea apparently romping away with the title much is being made of the battle for the top four, if United or Spurs win the Europa League, and don't finish in the top 4 does that mean that England gets 5 sides in the competition next season, or will the team finishing 4th end up missing out?

4th place misses out I believe, happened to Spurs when Chelsea won the Champions League a few years ago.

Correct.

If Spurs or Man Utd won the Europa League and finished outside the top 4 in the Premier League, we'd have 5 teams in the champions league next season.

If Leicester won the Champions League however, they'd compete next season at the expense of whoever finishes 4th in the Premier League.

The place awarded to the Europa League winner is irrespective of the country they come from.

That said what would happen if the side winning the Europa League also qualified for the Champions League through their league position? Would that country be able to award a position to the next club down in league position?

Lots of misinformation in this thread.

To clarify:

- Champions League winners are automatically entered into the group stage
- Europa League winners will be automatically entered at a minimum of the play-off stage. If the Champions League winner has already qualified for the group stage by their domestic league position, the Europa League winner will enter the group stage of the Champions League.
- Each country has a maximum allocation of 5 teams (up from a prior to 2015 allocation of 4). ONLY if two clubs from England won BOTH the Champions League and Europa League would the team finishing fourth in the Premier League be transferred into the Europa League, as it is not possible for one country to have 6 teams in the Champions League.
