Thanks for that, sounds like a right kurfuffle ! Guess i'm a bit out touch with things, but if i want to borrow money the lender says how much then tells me what it it will cost over what period, where does this credit score come into this? And why would you want to look up this score, what will this information help me to do?

The bank/lender will use it to determine how much you could borrow and what interest rate they charge. The better your score, the more likely you are to pay it back, so the less risk they won't lose out, so the less they will charge to borrow it.

Knowing your score is a little useless because there's not much you can do about it, but if something was wrong on your file and it stopped you getting a mortgage or something, you could have got it corrected BEFORE you got refused had you known.
