Announced in the stadium that it was about 21,600ish I think.
EDIT: On club website as 21,897
Why does anyone care about attendance numbers anyway?

Whats all this about the official crowd was 21,897 and is listed in all the papers and on the net, where did sky get there total and was there really that many empty seats?
School night = kids seats going empty. Why would Southampton be highest?
I'm way more interested in seeing us play Palace.
I wonder how many times 21,897 is going to be beaten this season.
I'm guessing Palace will be a touch over 21,000 and Leeds just over 20,000. I reckon Southampton will be the highest gate of the season, followed by West Ham.
We are no different to any other club...i.e under-declaring attendance figures. Because it was announced as a sell-out, they couldn't knock too many off last night ( still managed 500 off the home support....Liverpool were 100 short )
The Doncaster gate figure was clearly lower than actual and I have been suspicious of all subsequent home attendances.
I know your reasoning - cup matches are paid for as a one off, as opposed to the 18,400 picking and choosing which league games they might skip, and not giving the tix away. You'll never get as many for a league match as a cup match. Last night's will be the biggest unless we get manure in the FA cup. Leeds should be bigger than Palace as it's not a school night.
All this bollocks of not including season ticket holders and tax dodging. The attendance was 21,897. Deal with it.
