Sky said the attendance was 22,374, but I thought full capacity that? It can't have been COMPLETELY full surely? Did anyone spy any empty seats?

Announced in the stadium that it was about 21,600ish I think.

EDIT: On club website as 21,897

We are no different to any other club...i.e under-declaring attendance figures. Because it was announced as a sell-out, they couldn't knock too many off last night ( still managed 500 off the home support....Liverpool were 100 short )
The Doncaster gate figure was clearly lower than actual and I have been suspicious of all subsequent home attendances.

22500 seats, doesn't mean that numbers of paying customers, I suspect with these games 500+ are given out as freebies which they do not want on the gate figure (as previously said for the tax man to use), exactly why the Withdean gates were so low, loads of free tickets for school kids and parent and child deals, we may just see 22000 for palace or Southampton hopefully.

Whats all this about the official crowd was 21,897 and is listed in all the papers and on the net, where did sky get there total and was there really that many empty seats?

Bizarrely on TV you could hear the stadium announcer say it was 21,897 and then straight away Sky flashed up a graphic saying it was 22,374. I suspect that there may well have been 22,374 tickets sold/given away but the true attendance of paying customers (excluding season ticket holders not able to attend, free tickets given away to kids/sponsers etc.) was 21,897.

I wonder how many times 21,897 is going to be beaten this season.

I'm guessing Palace will be a touch over 21,000 and Leeds just over 20,000. I reckon Southampton will be the highest gate of the season, followed by West Ham.

Why would Southampton be highest?

I'm way more interested in seeing us play Palace.

You'll never get as many for a league match as a cup match. Last night's will be the biggest unless we get manure in the FA cup. Leeds should be bigger than Palace as it's not a school night.

All this bollocks of not including season ticket holders and tax dodging. The attendance was 21,897. Deal with it.

There were definitely empty seats in the stadium, why would they under declare the attendance anyway. The tax man wouldn't care about the number of people there, he would be more interested in the number of tickets sold (these two figures will always be different).

Are those figures including late entrys? At least one train load of fans arrived after kick off.

I know your reasoning - cup matches are paid for as a one off, as opposed to the 18,400 picking and choosing which league games they might skip, and not giving the tix away.

However, there will be one or two fixtures that see fewer seats going empty than normal. I'm guessing West Ham and Saints. And Pompey, as that one is both local and a likely victory.

There were definitely a few chunks of empty seats in the east. The south looked RAMMED though.

The capacity (and number of seats) is 22,374 I believe. They have to by practice/safety guide leave a percentage of seats free to cope with ticket errors (double sale etc) and advised entry cases (e.g. group turn up with no tickets and police advise they should be allowed in) and I thought I read that at Falmer this is about 150 tickets. As we were about 400 short of the capacity then there is still about 250 spaces not accounted for. the liverpool attendance was about 100 short of their capacity so that takes it down to about 150 spaces.

Given that I was only able to upgrade one of my u16 tickets on the family stand to an adult, I am responsible of 1 of them (i.e. ticket bought but not turned up) if they base it on people coming through the doors.

btw Brighton ' ove - good to see the red light clearly visible in the south stand concourse. Does that mean we didnt bother with local ales for the bin dippers but just opened up a large brothel to make them feel at home?

I also confess that my boy didn't turn up as he went sick shortly before leaving for the game so another seat free in the Family Stand.

I will be rectifying the situation moving forward by dragging him to the game no matter how ill he is.
