Just type Grimsby or Luton into the search engine on this board and read the posts people were making after those games! The end of the world was nigh back then, look how the season turned out.
As Sven has said, it would have been far worse if we'd lost 3-0 to France and not created a single opportunity. If we cannot beat a crap Switzerland team who are missing one of their first team players then we don't deserve to even BE in the tournament. The Croat team is a pale imitation of the great 98 side. Comparing the two is like comparing the current Leeds squad with the Leeds team of 2001.
I don't think us English would have it any other way really. In almost every major tournament we get off to a poor start and everyone straight away says what a disgrace the team is and how we're never going to win a game.
World Cup 2002 - 1-1 against Sweden. That was that, we're useless, might as well go home now.
Euro 96 - 1-1 against Switzerland. A disgrace, we'll be the worst hosts in Euro Championship history.
World Cup 90 - 1-1 against Ireland. Useless Bobby Robson, should have been sacked before the tournament. Worst England team in living memory.
World Cup 86 - Lost 1-0 to Portugal. That's that, absolute disgrace.

yes both palace and the Albion had a fair share of luck - both of our clubs have nothing to lose with england - if we get knocked out in the group stages we can say 'at least we won at cardiff and are GOING UP!'

i know what you mean sheebo but reading some of the shite on here made me feel better in a weird way cos it was so obviously way off the mark and we DID play well.

and i agree if we'd beaten france we would have then gone and drawn against switzerland. its how we do things.
