Cancelling Sky

After four conversations this month lasting an hour each when I was trying to order an HD box with Sky I finally lost my rag and cancelled my subscription.

Apparently I had previously cancelled a sky hd box (true - three and a half years ago when they delayed delivery of the box till after the world cup) and they couldnt wipe this from my account so I would have to pay 400 quid for an extra box or they could send my issue to the IT team to sort out, which would take two weeks. Each time I spoke to them they promised this and each time they promised to call me back - never did they do anything.

So - can anyone help with what other options are available on the digital tv front as I dont think I can get Virgin cable in my little country village. Does the satellite still actually receive anything?

It took me 6 weeks of waiting for the "IT Team" to cancel my account for a reason they'd never explain... eventually got given my last months subs back for some reason!

The box and dish will continue to receive a large number of channels. Mostly shite, but you get all the BBCs, all the ITVs, C4/E4/M4/F4, the Five channels, Sky News; a collection of music and news channels, the CBS stations and a few other bits and pieces worth watching.

The other option is Freeview if you can get it - but I have no idea of the coverage.

well apparently they wont let me sign up with nay offers again for at least 12 months once i cancel - I am sure they strictly enforce that if it means they get 50 quid a month coming in again!

They may send you a "please come back" offer in about 3 months time - generally 3 months half price or free HD. Gives you long enough to know if you can cope with the free channels I guess!

If you are having problems with Sky customer service go to the top and send an e-mail to jeremy.darroch@bskyb.com , this will go to through and be dealt with by specialist staff.

I ordered Sky HD with one of those voucher things at the weekend. Free box, free installation, coming at the end of the month. And I get to keep the old Sky+ box, although I dunno what use it'll be, being as I'm not signing up to Multiroom. I'll probably just use it as a doorstop.

Cannot rate Virgin Media enough. The On-Demand feature is one of the finest, recent televisual inventions ever.

I recently moved to a flat that, sadly, dosn't have access to Virgin. Settled for Sky, what a seondary option!! Sky+? Too much faffing about!! Oh and Sky is more expensive based on my bills..

Cancelling Sky is the best thing I've ever done, don't miss the 'live' football one bit and its a good feeling I'm not lining the pockets of Murdoch or the Premier League. How much TV do people really need anyway?

Sky are shit. Rememeber to tell your bank to cancel the direct debit, as Sky will continue to dip into your account long after you believe its all done and dusted.

There seems to be a problem in modern organisations these days, and that is communication. Why is it so fing difficult :rant:to communicate with other and sort simple issues sorted out.

This is very true. It is because they all now use very cheap call-centre staff. They have a strict procedure to follow and are only able to deal with 'standard' issues (i.e. issues on their list). There is generally no escalation procedure for issues which fall outside the list as the companies have outsourced the entire customer support operation. At the time of outsourcing, they believed that all issues were covered by the list of standard issues. This is never the case.

If you have a 'non-standard' problem, you are screwed.

Flog it on e-bay , it will fetch about £30 minimum.

I suppose the only answer to that is, everyones want's and needs are differant, whilst I don't like lining anyones pockets, we would not like to be without the footy / sports channel, my wife and I have changed our habits over the last few years, where we used to go out to pubs alot, we don't so much now, and by staying in alot, we justify having some extra home comforts which we did without when we were going out and lining landlords pockets..:lolol:

The LNB on the dish probably has some spare outputs (probably 2) so you could run one of those to the sky+ box on another TV and get the free channels. Can't record on it though.

Just had a chat with BT today - Sky are cancelling my call package with them - does anyone use this BT Vision thing - looks like they are giving a year of ESPN for a one off charge of 9 pounds. Just wondering if they were any good
