Well can he ? When we went up from league one our best players - Murray and Bennet were already there so what do we think of his purchases since then. Good or bad ?

This could be interesting.I reckon for every good signing he has made,he has signed a dud.Well when I say dud, I mean he got them and they were either shite or he didnt get the best out of them/or they didn't "fit in".

His record in spotting raw talent is lacking; the players we get for the development squad rarely seem to trouble the first team squad.

Agree in part with that. I think the two recent DS signings may be a step in the right direction.

i hope so. I've watched the DS a few times this season and haven't seen anyone who would put pressure on a first teamer.

I very much doubt Poyet makes signing for the DS team it will be the director of football as advised by the scouting team. The DS team will all be on peanuts in relative terms.

Well the whole squad are Gus' players now except for ElAbd, and Dicker, and arguably JFC, so it's really a question of who you rate.

Of the whole main outfield 21, there's only really 3 I don't rate now, so in my opinion, he's done very well.

Yes, of course he can. But it's definitely not the strongest part of his management. That seems to be turning average players into good ones.

Painter, Brezovan, Barnes?

Probably 50/50 in terms of players who have improved the squad compaired to those who have just added to the numbers.

Players like Bridge, Buckley, Kuzczak compared with Baz, Battipiedi, Dobbie

Also should consider signings like Ankergren, Painter, Sparrow, Barnes as players who were signed early in Gus' career and would have been considered good signings but now are towards the weaker end of the selection

Central Borneo / the Lizard
Calderon, Greer, Bridcutt, Barnes, Kuszczak, Painter, Lua Lua, Noone, Lopez, Wood, Hammond, Dunk, Bruno, Orlandi, Buckley, Bridge, Vicente

versus some the jury has been/is still out on (Ulloa, Upson, Sparrow, Vincelot, CMS, Crofts, Ankergren, Brezovan, Vokes)

versus

Harley, Baz, Battipiedi, Arismendi, Hoskins, Dobbie, Paynter

Its a pretty-good success rate

and as someone else said, he got the best out of players like El-Abd, Dicker and Navarro

Pork pie land.
Liam Bridcutt.

Hardly "spotted" him though did he?

He was almost forced upon him by Chelsea friends, and then only on a series of short term deals as cover for Navaro!

I "spotted" him in the first game I saw him play against Posh away - he owned them! I remember being gob-smacked at Poyet's lack of action in giving him a long-tem contract as he preferred Navaro in the longer term.

Right, so that is one player Poyet has got lucky with.

I will name Will Buckley, as the guy is pure class. I am not sure that he was really down to Poyet though.

Your right,,,Navarro was always Poyets number one not Liam. Buckley and Hoskins were bought in by Stephenson, lets be honest he has hardly been fare with Hoskins and Buckley is normally the fall guy.Did someone say Vicente lol,,,yeah he has been worth every penny,,alrhough im told he is going to save our season ,,,lol

So basically because he wanted Bridcutt to prove himself after he'd not done very well up to that point and then signed him up long term, its now a criticism? I terms of longevity, where is Navarro now?

In terms of Gus' signings, sure he's been hit and miss at times but all managers are. As was said earlier, this squad is basically now his squad and those who are deemed "not good enough" played a part at the level they were signed. Painter for example, cracking at League One level and therefore a good signing, you (not meaning you pork pie) can't now say he's a bad signing because the club has moved on.

Out of our current team, I would say Ankergren, Brezovan, Kuszczak, Bridge, Painter, Greer, Calderon, Bruno, Bridcutt, Hammond, Crofts (first time), Lua Lua, Orlandi, Buckley, Barnes, Ulloa and Spanish Dave are all successes. I'd even say that despite his massive ups and downs in form and fitness, CMS and Vicente are good signings.

On the negative, its only Hoskins, Harley and Dobbie that didn't work out and I still believe that Dobbie and Harley is a result of a lack of application on their part.
