Every day, I become more nostalgic for the seventies, especially the football of that era. There were no foreigners in the English game (apart from a sprinkling of Irishmen), the pitches were muddy post-October, games weren't postponed because of light frost, the tackles were hard but fair and nobody complained and nobody was booked, the home team's players often went to the ground on the same bus as the fans and players never dreamed of crossing the white line wearing gloves. Oh, and they never wore saris...or whatever it was that David Beckham wore to a party in LA a while back. Can you imagine Nobby Stiles or Dave Mackay or Alan Ball or Norman Hunter or Billy Bremner and the like wearing gloves on the pitch or a sari to a party?
