Of course, but many Christian practices across the world are equally so. The example of the Christians who nail themselves to crosses has been posted. You could also point to Deep South Christians in the US who have religious services with live snakes because it says so in the Bible.

What interests me is why suddenly there is a spate of threads on NSC highlighting stupid practices of Muslims while utterly ignoring the bizarre practices of other religions.

Suicide bombers are generally a military tactic by the weak and powerless. There often is religion involved, that's true, but it is not Muslim-specific.
