Buying a PC advice - what to get?

Although I have had laptops since I entered the world of home computing in '04 to be honest they are permanently desk bound and I have an official work one of these for occasional out of home use. I am thinking of retiring my laptop for the family to use and buying a grown up PC with a decent size screen.

It will be in daily use for home and work (usual Windows document stuff), streaming Spotify/iPlayer and random surfing (and posting on NSC of course). Don't need anything too fancy, just reliable, I am too old to want to play fast "shoot 'em up" games with guys from around the world!

Advice on a good solid brand around the £500ish mark would be appreciated. PC world is probably going to be the source unless you can advise me of a tried and tested alternative within easy reach of TN6.

Over to you......

I am waiting for a bargain. HDMI outlet is essential.

Myself I prefer a small format desktop box with a separate monitor. If you go to PC World they are selling some with the Monitor with a built-in computer. I know TVs are getting bit like computers though.

Then there is the choice whether or not to get the SSD hard disc as the main one. These are small so it means getting another hard disc as well.

I am waiting to buy one if a good one comes up so any advice appreciated. A year ago someone said i5 is the minimum specs. Might be i7 now. At least 4 Mb RAM, perhaps 8 Mb RAM?

Intel are meant to be phasing out i3 processors with i5 being the base standard but an i5 definitely isnt "minimum spec". It all depends what you're using said PC or laptop for. If it is like the OP then an i3 will be fine. Most games will be ok run on i5 processors. Harcore stuff will run better on an i7.
