Buy A Brick Campaign

Hi i have thought of an idea for falmer which would save the club money and also show that the stadium is completely community based.

We buy bricks, and we have our name on them or as in the seats at the goldstone a poster or memorabelia made.

This can be open to everyone in the community, so anyone can buy a brick and be part of a community satdium.

Just wondered if it was a good idea or not?

any feedback

How is this very different from the Alive and Kicking campaign? A&K rewarded donors with a seat named after them.

It would be cheaper (hopefully) and it allows the wider community to get involved

Well it's good that people care enough to try and think of ideas. It's a bit uncharitable to knock them down just because something is being done already and, as he say, it allows people with a smaller budget to partake and get a bit of recognition.

The problem with "cheap" bricks is that if tens of thousands are sold, you'd have to set up a big bureaucracy to administer the scheme - and how much would it cost to produce tens of thousands of individual hand made bricks?

If only 1,000 were sold and they were "cheap" bricks, how much would the scheme bring in? Would the effort be worthwhile (in comparison with, say, a one-off fund raising event)?

What size donation are you aiming to get from each subscriber?

I'm not knocking the idea (which has already been put to DK at Fans Forums in the past), just trying to get a discussion going about the practicalities.

Well I don't know, just say £10 and say 10,000 people buy one then thats £100,000.

It's only a rough idea, just was wondering if it would work. Because now people who might not be able to pay the a&k fund money, (i couldn't) can still partake in a way of being proactive in the actual building of the satdium, truly making it a community.

(anyway the football league is sponcered bt Wickes so we could broke a deal - how unpopular it may be)

Obviously the situation will change once we get planning permission for Falmer. But one thing that people might not be aware of is that the Club's opponents did try to turn the Alive & Kicking appeal against us at the Public Inquiry.

The argument went something like this ...

1. Planning permission for a major development in an AONB can only be granted if the project is economically viable;

2. The Football Club is practically broke, they are having to beg for money, just look at the Alive & Kicking appeal;

3. This proves that the Club haven't got the money to pay for the Stadium;

4. Prescott's own planning rules therefore require him to turn down the planning application.

Or perhaps it could be less of a money making matter, and more of a community thing. If the doubters see the wide range of people that are for the stadium enough that they want their names on it then it can prove the support and feeling of community it would generate

I thought your first post was rather dismissive and I'm sorry if I got the wrong impression.

I just think we should encourage people to keep coming up with creative ideas (we don't all manage to get to the fans forums or pay for the right level of seagulls world to hear the details) as someone might come up with a gem one day. It's a small price to listen to repeated suggestions and less practical ones and it costs nothing to air them on here.

Instead of the whole brick having a name on it the club should use stick-on fronts with names on-similar to Vera Duckworth's stone cladding on Corrie..:lol:

The club will have to buy bricks in bulk presumably. They can ask for a donation 'per brick' and inside falmer their could be an ingraved plaque with names of donators on. This wouldnt take much organising would it?

I think it is a great idea. Did the same thing at Millenium stadium I think. This could be done once the stadium is built and then someone comes in and marks all the bricks, which I would presume the club must try to build some part of the stadium with. :p A plaque may be more expensive but you can get quite cheply scanned in plaques which could be added reasonably.

Let's face it, if you said £10 a brick and it would cost £5 for engraving a plaque and putting it up (which I would guess would be OTT) would the club turn down the offer of having £5 for every brick in their pocket for the stadium? You could sell 10,000 and get £50,000, better than a smack in the face. Advertise it as Christmas/birthday presents etc, easy money. As for admin, I really don't think it would be that much hassle, fill in form, pay money, name sent to central list, list to engravers every 100 or so, name on plaque, put up, done.

But as Biscuit said, lets get Falmer first.

Palace have done this too.
You got that slightly wrong. They had a "Buy a Prick" appeal. It worked, now they've got a whole squad of them.
