Bus, train or the car to Falmer?

Yes, psychologically its annoying as from Eastbourne on a good run you could probably do it in 25 mins, but then you are going to have to drive past the AMEX to Mithras house which could be a real bundle. I didn't realise that the racecourse P&R is only at the planning stage.

As it stands I think initially I may park the car near Polegate station and then jump on the train. With the club leaving it all a bit late to confirm details, its going to be a learning curve for everyone.

The Racecourse P&R planning application is scheduled for the B&HCC Planning Committee on 29th June, the Bennett's Field application is due to be decided by Lewes DC Planning Committee on Wednesday (22nd).

Would it not be a good idea to have a seperate area on NSC where coach, rail and P&R travel to and from The Amex could be advertised therefore informing fans of the different choices and travel from their area? I read somewhere prices of Coach travel as far out as Midhurst and Petworth to the Ground but cannot find this information again.......would be nice if one of he links on NSC could be on a seperate sub-forum.

What would be a even better idea is for the club to make use of the "Travel" section of the Amex Stadium website, even if just to confirm/clarify the information that's been trickled out already by Perry, Brown et al (eg Albion Roar) or available elsewhere (Univ of Sussex website etc)

I think this is the info you were after, it's from an email I received from Stage Door at the beginning of April; fyi our group of 4 (Loxwood and Alfold) consider the £12.90pp cost from our likely pick-up point (Billingshurst) to be a bit of a rip-off, even with the travel voucher discount.

"Travel to Falmer for the 20011/12 season

Finally we have the routes and definite prices for coach/bus travel to the American Express Community Stadium.

The interest has been huge and we are expecting some routes to sell out quickly so if you haven’t already registered your interest and paid your deposit make sure you do so soon.

People who buy a travel season ticket obviously have a seat on every league match coach and priority for cup match coaches. If you prefer to pay match-by-match this will be subject to availability and you will need to book your place by phone before each game.

As you probably know the club sell travel vouchers - 25 vouchers for £25, which can be used against your coach travel to the Amex. So you buy 25 vouchers and get a reduction of £3 per match when you hand the voucher into us on the Match-by-Match payment. If you buy the travel season ticket you don’t need to buy the Albion travel vouchers.

We are still working on exact pick up points to try to enable as many people as possible to be picked up where it’s most convenient for them. When you pay your deposit let us know where you would like to be pick up and we’ll do our best to accommodate but of course it does depend on numbers.

If you haven’t already paid your deposit to register your interest, then fill in the form attached and return it to us as soon as you can.

Until we know exactly how the Travel Voucher scheme will work, it's impossible to work out whether some of the coach options set out above are worth thinking about.

For example, the coach fare from Bexhill is shown as £8.90 per match (assuming you pre-book for the whole season). The return rail fare is £9.10 (if bought on-line). If a Travel Voucher gives a £2 or £3 discount on rail fares, train will be significantly cheaper than the coach. If you can't use a Travel Voucher to get a discounted train ticket, train is more expensive (but not on a match-by-match basis, though).

It really doesn't help decision making not to know yet what the options are.

If you've got a railcard (senior or 16-25), rail is significantly cheaper than coach from Bexhill - £6 return (as opposed to £8.90 for a coach season ticket, or £12.50 on a match-by-match basis). If the Travel Voucher gives a further discount on the train, the differences will be even greater.
