Italian woman ticketed for wearing a burqa

ROME - An Italian woman who is married to an Arab man and converted to Islam, has been ticketed twice in the past week for wearing a burqa in her small village in the province of Como.

The ticket was based on the violation of Article 85 of a package of security laws imposed in 1931 under the fascist dictator Benito Mussolini, which forbids citizens to “mask themselves in public.”

Any comments? Is this narrow-mindedness by Italian villagers or a disregard for social norms by the woman in the burqa? Should the authorities be allowed to demand that she remove the vail?

These sort of measures are counter-productive. Let people wear what they like.

Treat them all as potential terrorists just to be on the safe side, it could be anyone under that batman cloak.

Given most of our D-List celebrities are currently using European Human Rights laws to keep their sordid activities out of the papers, I imagine any half-decent lawyer could get that one reversed.

ticketed twice?

surely she should have been clamped and towed away to the pound after the first offence.
