this was without a doubt my favourite opening day match of my time watching the albion

when the team was announced a sense of disbelieve descended around turf moor - who was adam hinshlewood and why was he starting in place of cullip?! turned out to be an inspired decision though, as he was quality that day

steve melton showed his potential, brooker got one and so did zamora. then the icing on the cake, arthur gnohere sent off for headbutting gary hart, which was a blatant dive from harty

a great start to the season, and things looked really bright. hinshlewood was the right man to be incharge, and we were going to secure mid table easily

Those were the days indeed.....oh how impressed i was hearing a bloke on talk sport that night saying that assuming we could keep Zamora and Hinshelwood away from the Premiership, then we'd make it up for a third consecutive season.

Almost right.....

If Coppell had been in charge, we might have done...

Nobody can manage a team with more than ten first choice players on the injury list!!
If Martin had been given the opportunity to run the team when they all came back from the treatment room, we might have been able to see exactly how good or bad a manager he was.

And Zamora I think had a goal disallowed early on so might have been 4-1. Still a bit pissed off we conceded a goal. Was the first of many though....

Great game and result was only marred for me after I was kicked by a very brave bunch of Burnley lads after the game. It really takes courage to assault a lone supporter minding his own business.

Got a fuckin parking ticket. We parked on a road where there were loads of other cars, the Police were all over the place, on horses and that, never said a word to any of us, and there were quite a few parking there. Came out after the game to a f***ing fine. f***ing wankers :annoyed:

Prefered thae game agianst Oldham the season before to be honest. Really hot, new Yellow away strip. Knight & Henderson on target I think.

but he could of played virgo, who had more experience. or shifted mayo to centre back and played jones at left back. the fact he took a risk on a 17 year old who hadn't even been on the bench before was a pretty inspired decision

Doubt it, he couldn't even keep us out of the relegation zone having managed to get us out of it briefly

despite our form under him being good enough to be in the top half of the table

Then you, my friend, are naive. Coppell took a lot of people here for a ride, and fooled a lot of fans into trusting him. It is just my opinion that no manager, morally, should get relegated with a team and then walk off for a better job. The palace connection should have ensured he never got a job in the first place, but once he did, his actions were nothing short of disgraceful. I, for one, CELEBRATED the day he left.

I think you may be the naive one as I believe he wanted to stay but DK made no effort to keep him and virtually "sold" him for the compensation

The chairman should not have to persuade a manager under contract to stay. He signed up for a year, and pissed off after three months. Are you trying to say Knight should have to enter negotiations to keep his manager happy every three months, or just every time another job in the country becomes available?

Yep, in just the same way you would with a player who was wanted by a bigger club. But in this instance, if true, being told you could go because the compensation would keep the club afloat is not really the backing a manager who has you 6 points clear at the top of the division probably wants to hear
