The emotive subject of Bull fighting again as Jose Tomas a " reverred "Bullfighter is now in a coma and fighting for this life.

Personally I think this barbaric practice should be banned.

Opinions ?.

If you play with fire, you may get burnt.

What is the ratio of mattadors to bulls dying in the ring?
All a bit too one-sided and predictable for my liking.
US, you're a betting man, do they give odds on the bull winning?

Traditions do change over time - IMHO this one has run its course and is not appropriate for the 21st century.

I think its about 100000 - 1. About 50 bullfighters have died and millions of bulls I would think. I must say my reaction is F*CK you you stupid tosser and give the Bull a round of applause. As you can see the Bull has about 8 knives in its back when he said " enough is enough ".

Spanish matador Jose Tomas is in intensive care after being badly gored during a bullfight in the Mexican town of Aguascalientes.

The half-tonne bull - named Navegante - caught the world famous matador in his thigh during a fight yesterday.

The video shows Tomas, dressed in pink stockings and a gold sequined top, writhing around on the ground after the bull catches him with one of his horns.

According to Tomas’ manager the beast penetrated four inches (10cm) into the 34-year-old's groin and punctured a vein and an artery.

He lost up to eight litres (17 pints) of blood.

Quite. Am waiting for some t*sser to come on here and explain that "it's tradition."

So was slavery, probably should've kept that on eh?

I went to San Fermin in 2007 and took part in the bull run, I can quite honestly tell you that it was the most insane, adrenallin fuelled thing I have ever done (and will prob ever do). Speaking to locals gave me a balanced perspective on bull fighting.

As someone raised in Sussex I agree that it seems a little barbaric however, what you must remember is that this is spanish/mexican heritage and had you grown up in a town like Pamplona or indeed Aguascalientes your view may be somewhat different.

Take for example arranged marriages, I dont agree with these but accept that in some parts of the world this is normal.

oooh, I would be that tosser

Wahey, didn't take long!

So the main thrust of the argument is "they've always done it, so it's ok"?

See my previous comments regarding slavery.

A lot of people don't but it's not PC to say so. However I'm applauding the Bull as killing an animal for entertainment is definately not PC.

No sympathy with him. The bull won and I for one am glad.

The Spanish are a civilised nation but have yet to throw out the sport, implying they're generally happy to keep it.

Overall, footage like this and the running of the bulls at Pamplona show that, actually, the bull does have some chance of exacting revenge. I don't think the sport would have remained as popular as it has done for so long unless there was a big element of danger to the matador.

Crucially, in Spain, there appears to be some reverence for the bull, which I think is an important part of the spectacle. The animal even appears on the national flag waved by supporters at international matches.

Therefore, as there's more to it than cruelty for cruelty's sake, I'd let the Spanish decide.

I'm sure the bull is DELIGHTED to be on the flag, and that DEFINITELY makes up for his torture and eventual death.

Time to reel out a very old joke then.......

A tourist goes into a restaurant after a bull fight in Spain. He sees another man at a different table eating a huge round meatball. He asks the waiter if he can have the same, but the waiter says they can only serve that dish 2 times a day, and they have sold out, but if you come back tomorrow I will reserve the dish for you.

The next day the man goes back only to be given a dish less than a quarter the size of the one he saw the day before. He calls the waiter over and complains "the dish I saw yesterday was huge, this is ridiculous, whats going on?" to which the waiter replied, "Si Senor, but sometimes the bull wins"

Yes but but they do seem to have a bit of an issue with black people, ask Louis Hamilton.

Given the choice I'm sure the bull would rather have one small chance of glory than be carted off and electrocuted at the local Fray Bentos abbatoir...
