British print media on the referendum...

Why can't people understand this has nothing to do with party politics. There are many from the left and right who want out and for good reason.
Many need to wake up and and realise that the EU ,by stealth,has become a political dictatorship whose leaders are unelected by or unaccountable to the general population. The future looks very bleak with increasing rules and regulations that will effectively take away freedom of choice or speech..
Unfortunately the dumbing down of society means that many believe without question what they read in the papers or hear on TV , the latter especially which is very much for the in vote.

Well, this is a bit of a dumb thing to say too. There are clearly compelling arguments for both sides, and the EU provides benefits to membership as well as negatives. The most dumbing down of this debate will be those from either side saying that those on the other side are somehow intellectually inferior.

What will be most interesting and important is how the big 'out' newspapers spin things. If the Telegraph, the Mail and the Sun all come out vocally in support of leaving it will have, IMO, a massive impact on public opinion and therefore the result.

However I suspect they will be more muted, particularity the Sun (cant imagine the Sun going too against Dave...), will be interesting to see!

Surely it's unenlightened self-interest?! Most of the press is owned by oligarchs, who stand to benefit from UK leaving the EU: more laissez-fair, fewer minimum standards, even less environmental protection and workers' rights. This is what the super-rich thrive on.

I agree that it is, on the face of it, surprising that David Cameron hasn't got more support from the right-wing print media.

Last May voters defied the polls and elected a Tory majority under his leadership knowing full-well that he was promising an EU referendum and that he would be campaigning for IN. Given that Labour, the Lib Dems, Greens and SNP are also in favour of IN then that is a fair indication the general electorate are likely to vote IN.

Since that time Cameron has obtained a deal that, to a greater or lesser extent, will improve our lot in the EU.

Contrast this with the leading lights of the OUT campaign - Farage lost the seat he was fighting for and tendered his resignation from UKIP, Boris has never held a senior Cabinet position and George Galloway donned a catsuit and slurped a saucer of milk on reality TV. What makes it even more scary is Donald Trump in the States "out-pantomiming" the OUT coalition with his "Mexico's gonna pay for the wall" nonsense.

Hopefully, Hillary and IN will win the day and the lunatics will be back in the asylum by Christmas.

Newspapers are just the opinions of the mega rich owners, to them the in/out debate is entirely about how much money they can make in each outcome. They have no interest in the man in the streets opinions on Europe or what it means to the Pound in his pocket.

They will pick their side purely on their best interests.
