Sorry, bit confused ... the email was from British Gas

If it was British Gas, unless you are to date with your bills, they may just illegally break into your home and replace your meters anyway.

Note: only joking but I doubt the poor sods that BG did actually do that to didn’t find it funny.

I know someone who has an electricity account with SSE and the meter has stopped working. SSE appear content not replacing it because it's mounted on asbestos. The person is being charged for estimated usage. Can SSE be forced to replace it?

I always thought the gas and electricity meters were owned by the companies, not the consumer. Therefore if they want to replace their meter - surely you shouldn't have to pay anything?

I was told if we had Smart meters, there would be no charge.

Does that not mean 'if you to have Smart meters, there would be no charge'? Because obviously if you already had Smart meters, they wouldn't be old and decrepit.
