Or was it Led Zep who at least had the good grace to quit before they became old men reliving their youth on stage, which is a big +

Good grace? Surely John Bonham dying had far more to do with it?

Hmmmm, difficult one, especially as you've only given us three options, albeit good ones.

Just to play devil's advocate let's throw some other worthy proponents in there:

Black Sabbath
Iron Maiden
Cream
Kinks (as much "rock" as the Stones)
Deep Purple
Jimi Hendrix Experience (OK, I know Jimi was born in the States, but he wasn't successful until he came over here and formed the Experience wuth British musicians!)
Motorhead
Status Quo - I know, but you can't fault their popularity or longetivity.

If you're having Hendrix, then AC/DC are a MUST inclusion in that list. More Scottish than they are Australian, they even used to perform in Scotland footie shirts (which i suppose doesn't do them any favours!!)...

Didn't stop the Who when Moon died or the Stones when Jones died though...

In fact it hasn't stopped the Who even though 50% of the band are dead

Problem is, I was a HUGE fan until I saw them live.

For the first hour and a half they were the greatest rock ban I'd ever seen. By the end of their two and a half hour set, I was bored shitless - some bands need to know when to stop!!!

Still at least you couldn't accuse them of being poor value for money.

Indeed not, but it wasn't like Led Zep said "We're retiring gracefully now, before we get old and make tits of ourselves" it was more "Bollocks, our drummer's snuffed it, better call it a day chaps".

OK " good grace" was obviously a euphemism for "fell apart from internal ego struggles and death in true rock and roll fashion"

I'm sorry, but AC/DC are shit.

Only failed to see Led Zep live out of that shortlist (though I have seen Page and Plant in later guises) and really struggling to pick a winner. I'll have to come back later to vote!

??? ???

Not up there with the big 3 in this poll, but shit? Certainly not. But they are a damn site better than Status Quo!!!!

42 million sales of the Back in Black album seems to suggest that they aren't that bad......

Didn't include the Jam as they started out as little more than a 70's copy of the Who and Black Sabbath, well I just think Ozzie's a wanker so wouldn't have included them even if they weren't shit :lolol:
