Bring Back Fred Binney!
Just the thought of Binney donning the blue and white stripes again sets the pulse racing.
Fred would make a great addition to Gus's current squad!!

when wardy replaced him in 76 we were in the promotion place with 4 games to go,then ward came in and we didn't win any of the four:US: 21 goals and dropped

But look what happened the next season - and we got Alan Mullery too !

On the train to Hereford on that day in 76 ( ? )....an acquaintance informed me that the great Fred was being dropped for a young lad out of the reserves called Ward. I was amazed but I was told that this Peter Ward was ' bloody good '
Full of local ale, we staggered to the ground at about 2.30pm and saw the great Fred standing outside, sheepskin coated and not looking at all friendly. Full of dutch courage, I approached Fred and enquired as to whether he was playing. The withering look told me all I needed to know.
My acquaintance helped the situation by saying " What did you have to go and ask him that for.... it was obvious he wasn't playing "
The rest is history. Wardy scored in 50 seconds, got 6 in 8 games and broke the club scoring record the next season .
and it was the beginning of the end for the ' moustachioed warrior ' at Brighton.

Binney was the last of a dying breed.
He was, basically, a bump on a log while there was any running or fast action going on - but when the ball came his way he was deceptively
tricky and knew exactly where the net was.
He was our version of Berbatov - languid but deadly.
