* CONTROVERSY ALERT *
Oh I don't know. The prices are no worse than its neighbours, and the bar staff are pretty decent and courteous. The Open House of three years ago - I'd agree.
However, if it's rude bar staff you're after - nowhere tops The Great Eastern. Surly, non-engaging, miserable and rude. I think that's covered those bases.
Am I alone in really not liking the North Laine Pub?
Whoever decided on the school cafeteria style seating in there wants shooting. Pretty much everything else about the place is decent.

The Clyde.
Seconded
Jolly Brewers?
I quite like the William IV.
Simply for the incident when they tried to throw about 20 of us out, post Komedia, the Laird insisted on seeing the licensee to find out what we had done wrong.
He was told she was asleep, to which the answer was do not care, get her down here. 5 minutes later a half asleep landlady in her pyjama's appears to get a verbal volley for about 20 minutes from the Laird.
I drank in some absolute dives in my youth, some mentioned already, some long gone. The Branch and The Bat and Ball were on one of our regular pub crawl routes. I also drank irregularly in The Bevendean, The Gardners in Portslade and The Stanley before the Real Ale came in when it was run by Rick and Mandy. I would happily drink in any of these again rather than set foot in Yates's in West St. So can I have that please?
The Evening Star, bar staff serving their mates before the people that have been waiting at the bar.
Nope sorry, that does not happen. Drink in there regularly and never seen that. And I'm not their mate.
If you're going to allow nominations for the Basketmakers and Great Eastern but discount The Open House then this poll means nothing
