Brighton stadium boost
Brighton's bid to build a new stadium at Falmer has been handed a boost with a local MP reversing his opposition.
Charles Hendry has signed an Early Day Motion urging Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott to approve the plans.
Mr Hendry, who represents Wealden, said: "I have reconsidered my position. Brighton badly need to expand capacity, especially now they have been promoted.
"I have been persuaded by the value of the stadium to the area, bringing jobs and expanding community programmes."
Falmer residents have opposed plans for a 23,000-seater ground because of environmental concerns.
But Mr Hendry added: "The concerns about planning, I believe, can be overcome so that the village of Falmer is not ruined."
A total of 129 MPs have signed the motion so far, including 89 from the Labour Party.
