Pretty sure this tune was brought to English football by Liverpool fans for Fernando Torres - 8 years ago or whatever. Hadn't heard it before then - and Liverpools song was class tbf...

Thought the Stevie Sidwell song tonight was great especially after he bagged the winner.
Oh, Stevie Sidwell, you are the love of my life
Oh Stevie Sidwell, I'd let you shag my wife,
Oh, Stevie Sidwell, I want ginger hair too..... And repeat!

Sung by a load of drunk Brighton fans it has a slurred sea shanty feel to it, it's almost the perfect drunk song that exists

The original words were When Johnny comes marching home.

I don't sing der der der but la la la until the last line.

You're right it is la la's rather than der der's. I was really very drunk at the time (in a fast show style)

We'll all be gay when Johnny comes marching home.

I like that, ties in with Sussex by the Sea.

I used to sing it as a Hymn at school about Noah's Ark.

For that reason it always makes me think of animals going in two by two.

It wasn't the NSK who resurrected this song, it was at an away game at Chesterfield under Dean Wilkins where a few drunk fans started singing it before it caught on. Wilkins came over to the away following at the end of the game to say how brilliant we were.

It was Ryan Harley's song for their HERO Ryan Harley, years back.

Thought it had been sung for years in different versions. My favourite ending "who needs Suarez we got Ashley Barnes"

Got my wish, north stand did a great rendition of the drunken sea shanty la la la la we all follow Brighton and Hove Albion. Even the West stand joined in, I was singing along in WSL. Was ****in epic, what an atmosphere, what a game, what a ****in laugh that was. To cap it all off the MAESTRO that is Bruno scores and has the whole stadium singing Ole ole ole ole, Bruno Bruno. What a fun night. What a moment for the great man

Many many years ago we used to sing the same tune which went something like......
"The Palace came in 1 by 1
and 1 by 1 they all got done" etc

I understand there's been many different versions over the years but I just love the drunken sing along version of La la la la la etc. No lyrics till the end

I thought it was a great atmosphere last night. Seems our visiting fans didn't agree...
