From today's Argus:

McCammon is keen on Albion
by Andy Naylor

Albion transfer target Mark McCammon claimed today he could thrive in the Championship with the Seagulls.

The Millwall front man wants to be reunited with Albion manager Mark McGhee, who signed him for the Lions from Brentford.

McCammon, 26, was on the brink of joining Albion on loan last month, but the move fell through at the 11th hour because the Seagulls could not afford him.

McGhee is hoping a deal can be resurrected now that Albion have landed a lucrative tie away to Tottenham in the third round of the FA Cup on January 8 (3pm).

McCammon, who was on the bench for Millwall at Wolves last night, said: "Things are up in the air at the moment.

"I have got the upmost respect for Mark McGhee. He brought me to Millwall, so I would be keen on Brighton.

"A move was agreed the night before Brighton went to West Ham. I had prepared myself to come down there on a month's loan, but it all fell through because of my wages.

"Until last night I hadn't been involved in the Millwall squad for the past three weeks after putting in a transfer request.

"I think that is the reason I haven't been playing, rather than not being good enough. When I get a run of games and my confidence is sky-high then I can do a job at this level."

Trouble is that if he is on the transfer list, Millwall are hardly likely to pay his wages and someone reconed he was on £7k a week...we have difficulty in paying £7k a year!!!

He can only do a job when his confidence is sky high!!!

I would expect that we would be looking to sign him perminantly on a lower wage than £7k a week! If his is on that much then Millwall would be more than happy to unload him. I can't see Millwall being able to afford those sort of wages anyway. Their gates aren't much bigger than ours!

And how long would it take him to get match fit again if he's not played for three weeks, it'll be six weeks after the Spurs game

I would assume he's been getting reserve games. It's not in Millwall's interest not to keep him fit. He would never sell.

Does anyone else HATE the phrase "do a job"

I don't want an expensive striker who can "do a job".

I want a striker who says - "I can promise Albion fans I'll be banging in goals for the rest of the season."

:(

Good point well made.

I'm not sure I want him to squat in the middle of the pitch and 'do a job' for us either!

From what I've heard from fans of other clubs about McCammon, they say he's utter crap.

Surely McGhee would be better off using the FA Cup money to secure the services of Cullip and Knight beyond the end of the season?

I'd much rather we signed Quincy Owusu Abiye.

From what I saw of him at Old Trafford last week, he is more interested in shuffling his foot over the ball than getting properly involved in the game.

I'm sure that's a very harsh assessment of The Flying Pathologist but we need players who are going to work like f*** to make sure we are not relegated

The idea gives me the shivers. How can McCammon gives us what Claridge doesn't (other than few years!!!hahahahaha). McCammon has done nothing and we don't need him..... if we got him it should only be on loan. I think it's a great idea to moan about having no money and then go and spend a load on someone who's not worth a couple of farthings!!

I'm not sure the Striker position is an issue at the mo... we have cover for Knight soon with McPhee back and it's Claridge or Virgo as the other.

What would other clubs have said about Currie?

What would Shef Wed said about Knight?

Damn right. Except Wycombe might've said Currie was good, he was their top scorer last season ;)

Apparently Brighton fans think Harding is pants.

Me, I'll stick with the assessments of professionals like McGhee.

McGhee knows him very well and would not be knocking himself out to sign him unless he believed he could suit our style of play and get those nine more wins.
