On BBC website (also posted in Harry's thread):

Harry Howell became Brighton's youngest player as he made his Premier League debut as a substitute against Liverpool, with the 17-year-old coming on alongside his cousin Jack Hinshelwood.

"[He was] impressive," said the Seagulls' head coach Fabian Hurzeler. "[He has been in] training only weeks now and how he changed and how he adapted to the first team environment - it's a special player for his young age. I always give young players a chance because, for me, it is not about age, it's about if you deserve it then you will play, and if you're good enough you will play. I'm not afraid of giving young players a chance and that is what the club is standing for, so I'm very happy for him.

"I always say every player is important and if you show togetherness every time, if everyone understands his role and if everyone knows that 'if I'm a sub I can have an impact on the game when I come into it'.

"It's also how you prepare as a sub. Are you disappointed? Yes, maybe you're disappointed because you don't start but, you always have to be ready when you come into a game to have an impact on it and therefore, I'm really proud of how the players who came in changed the momentum for us."

Also on the BBC website:

Brighton's win against the champions was only one of the positive takeaways for boss Fabian Hurzeler.

He said that fellow German Brajan Gruda had "his best game" for the Seagulls since the 20-year-old midfielder joined from Mainz last summer, claiming his fourth assist of the season.

"It's so important to understand that behind the player is a person," said Hurzeler. "It's a person who comes from a different culture, a different country. He comes without his family, the first time away from his family and he's a very family-driven character, so it's very important to understand the background of everything and not only see that the player has to perform - they're not machines, we always have to see the person behind it.

"He suffered a lot [with injuries] but one thing I can say is he never gave up. He always tried to improve in training, he showed character, he showed good reactions in training, he had some self-doubts but his belief in himself was bigger.

"It should be a sign for him that with hard work and with sacrifices this season during this period that he can achieve something."

Great result, didn't see the game because of work unfortunately. Won't make any comments based on the generous 2 minute and 30 seconds of highlights the Premier League allow except to say it's always great seeing a Mitoma Magic show partway through the game. Found a replay to watch later though.

As a woman, it gives me great pleasure to explain the offside rule to you.
It is measured from when the ball is kicked, not when O’Riley receives it.

i called it onside before VAR confirmed it. The linesman was over by the East stand so had several players in his line of sight.
Excellent Womansplaining

Liverpool have lost a Premier League game having led at half-time for the first time since December 2016 (a 4-3 loss at Bournemouth), ending their run of 156 games without defeat when leading at the break (W142 D14).
The stats keep coming:

Brighton 12 shots on target was the most Liverpool have faced in a Premier League** match ever

**Football only started in 1992

BBC: Monday's win saw Brighton complete a remarkable home record against the Premier League's 'big six' in the league this season.

Now only are the Seagulls unbeaten against them at the Amex Stadium, but they have dropped just two points from their six league games at home to the 'big six':

  • 24 Aug - Brighton 2-1 Man Utd
  • 6 Oct - Brighton 3-2 Tottenham
  • 9 Nov - Brighton 2-1 Man City
  • 4 Jan - Brighton 1-1 Arsenal
  • 8 Feb - Brighton 3-0 Chelsea
  • 19 May - Brighton 3-2 Liverpool

The two bottom of the survival league dilute that stat IMO

I prefer the fact that there are 7 teams above us and in those 14 games we have only lost 3 of them

And we have beaten two, drawn one (ignoring pens) and lost one in the cups

As a man and too prove my head isn’t just a hat stand I fully concur with what you have said, I was being slightly facetious and a little mischievous regarding the third goal which as you rightly pointed out was a good goal, well done for calling it early 👏.

VAR is a total joy killer and as far as I can see it we’ve two options,

1. Scrap VAR totally
2. Get my ex-wife to oversee VAR to cut out errors, cause that one was never wrong.

what a breath of fresh air Arne Slot has been as well. Took the defeat in good grace (easy to do I suppose when you’ve walked the league), but I like his attitude generally and approach to the sport. Seems very intelligent and reasonable - obviously he’s human and will make mistakes and lose his cool
Give him time the scousers will knock this out of him.

That’s the funny thing, seems a man of his principles. Before writing my post, I wanted to double check on his record this season and prior at other clubs, so I did a bit of a “background check”. He lost his rag at a referee this season, apologised publicly. Had a few similar at Feyenoord. I even went to the lengths of reading a few Google Translated pages on the Feyenoord forum’s thread about him. They adore him. AZ Alkmaar less positive because he was essentially tapped up to join Feyenoord while under contract to AZ. Bit of a Potter situation.

Outside of my own club, he’s one of the only managers I’ve really admired in a while; maybe Iraola too.

I think he’s been a brilliant addition to the league. Better him than Mourinho shit housing the league, Wenger moaning, Ferguson bullying, Arteta crying - et al.

background check”
🤣⬆️ this made me laugh 👏,

But I standby what I said Liverpool FC will seep into him by osmosis and before ya know it he’ll be off to Turkey for the teeth and a curly weave and he’ll be looking up recipes for a pan of scouse.

The fruit doesn’t fall far from the tree.

Let’s hope you aren’t right, I like his brand of football much more than modern Pep, they’ve been great to watch this season and a big part has been my ability to tolerate the gaffer.
