For me, 6 being average.

Ankergren 6: Did nothing wrong all game and kicking was good

Calderon 7: Good pasing and linked up well when going forward
Elphick 6: A typicaly good Elphick performance
El-Abd 5: Poor first 30 minutes and nearly made some costly errors
Painter 7: No-one was getting past Marcos today and he capped that of with a goal

Bennett 7: Very exciting performance but sometimes should shoot with his left
Battipedi 6: The young lad didn't really get on the ball
Kishishev 6: Very strong and good on the ball, good to see another 90 finished
Dicker 7: The man can play some glorious passes
Barnes 7: Very good second half and finish to match

Murray 7: Plays the lone role very well and was unlucky not to score

Today no-one gets an 8, there were some good performances out there but I thought no-one had that good a first half to warrant an overall 8.

3 points... just what the doctor ordered!

Casper 5. Nervy first half, nothing to do in the second. Kicking good, but he does not give me loads of confidence. Would much rather have seen Kuipers in goal.

Calderon 6. OK. Got skinned once. Not sure he's as good as last year.

ElAbd 7. Good game.

Elphick 7. Seemed to be having problems with their striker in the first half, but sorted it out in the 2nd.

Painter 7. OK performance. Good goal.

Bennett 8. Excellent.

Kishishev 7. Did his job well.

Batty 5. Not sure about him.

Dicker 8. Played well.

Murray 8. MOM. Great game. Got to almost all the high balls. Lots of energy.

Barnes 7. Really well taken goal which will do his confidence a world of good. Generally had a good game and linked up well with Murray.


Subs:
Smith 7. Brought bags of energy to midfield. Good performance.
Holroyd .. cannot rate him for two minutes!

Ankergren - 5 - Hardly anything to do.

Calderon - 5 - Still doesn't look great defensively, was left behind a couple of times but better in the opponents half.

Elphick - 6 - Won every ball, solid.

El Abd - 5 - Sloppy today but better as the game wore on.

Painter - 7 - Solid, goal, great signing from Gus.

Battipiedi - 5 - He didn't see much of the ball as Walsall crowded mid-field.

Bennett - 7 - Lively first 20, lively last 30 otherwise quiet.

Kish - 4 - He is SO off the pace, weak link for a lot of today, needs some match sharpness or something. Dissapointing because he looked useful during pre-season.

Dicker - 7 - Good solid but less then exciting performance.

Murray - 8 - Showed his quality today, won every header and kept the ball, great cross.

Barnes - 7 - Chased every ball, linked up well with Murray, well taken goal.

Smith - 7 - Brightened the game up and gave Walsall something more to think about other then Murray and Bennett. Like a new signing.

Holroy - Only on for a few minutes.

Informative post - I didn't go today - but how can you *nearly* make an error? Isn't that like missing a goal?

Ankergren 5 - Flapped at an early shot and looked nervous. Did ok but doesn't fill me with confidence.

Calderon 6 - Improved as the game wore on, is getting more like the player we had last season.

El-Abd 4 - Shocking at start of first half. Keeping the ball on the deck is all well and good, but I do worry when they casually knock it around at the back. Always look like cocking up.

Elphick 6 - Won a lot in the air but see above re on the ball.

Painter 7 - Great performance capped by decent goal. Looked absolutely delighted.

Bennett 7 - Lively, tried to make things happen, made some good blocks.

Batti 5 - Good when on the ball, but this wasn't often enough.

Kishishev 4 - Poor today, dwelled on the ball too often, kept on giving possession away.

Dicker 6 - One of our most gifted players on the ball, but sometimes takes way too much time. Became very involved in second half.

Barnes 6 - Smashing finish. Looked low on confidence before, I think he has it in him though.

Murray 7 - Great performance, worked his NUTS off. Won a lot in the air, scared the life out of their defenders. Was gutted when his shot came off the post.


Smith 6 - I really like him. Was the only midfielder (bar Bennett) not afraid to turn and run at the defence. We looked more threatening with him on the pitch. Should definitely have scored 2 goals, which would have capped a good performance.
