I take it that is the Lovers Walk sheds behind the train. I second the comments about the Inspectors. The security firm that Southern uses, Meteor Security, are the biggest bunch of miserable gits out. I often go up from Oxted now rather than East Grinstead and because I object to paying £3.50 to Meteor Security to park in their manky and definitely not secure car park (having already paid to park in the East Grinstead car park) I park down a side street 5 minutes from the station. Why can they not employ their own staff and actually treat us like customers (which they keep telling us we are). Southern staff by contrast are fine and usually very friendly (though there is one Bristolian prat who talks about somewhere called London Bridge Central). Another moan of mine is the clowns in the signalbox at East Croydon, who keep sending us on the slow lines, which means we crawl behind the local trains. Performance was fine for the first two weeks of October, now it's crap again. VH, BB, have you any idea why the performance should have declined so heavily recently? It isn't the leaves. It always seems to be the signals.

Ultimately missing my flight was going to cost more than not having a train ticket.

However still going to complain to First Capital about his attitude etc. Not that it will do much good.

Would you turn up at the airport with 10 minute's to spare without a ticket and still expect to get your flight? If not then why expect to get on a train under the same circumstances!

The trains in England provide a shit service compared to a lot of other countries in Europe. They're expensive, frequently delayed and it's a nightmare to get to places sometimes on the weekend.

The trains in England provide a shit service compared to a lot of other countries in Europe. They're expensive, frequently delayed and it's a nightmare to get to places sometimes on the weekend.

It's a difficult question to answer, and I'm certainly no expert on that kind of thing.

From my experience abroad, all I know is that trains in France were sometimes more expensive but were very reliable.

Trains in Italy are quite shit, apart from the high speed ones, and often late, but are dirt cheap.

You're the railway expert, whichever signalbox controls East Croydon and Selhurst Junction I mean. We're normally fine until then, from then on we usually crawl. What sense does it make to path a down Epsom Downs train with about 20 people on it ahead of an up train with 500 people on. As I said, it had been excellent up until recently, but it now seems to have gone all to pot again.

I'm suggesting you should make sure you have a valid ticket to travel with before you board the train. People without a ticket on a train would do well to remember that in the event of an accident you would have no right to compensation becuse you have no right to be there in the first place. Your ticket is also your insurance policy.

The signal box that controls east croydon and selhurst junction is at three bridges where I work. Explain to me exactly which train you travel on & i'll try & give you the answer's you want.

In nearly 30 years of signalling trains thats the first time i've been refered to as a clown.



I know it's a bit of a fucker having signals at red but thats what stops trains crashing into each other!

Also, should the Revenue Protection Officer (or whatever he's called) confiscate my ticket without issuing a receipt?

I'm not the best person to advise on this situation i'm afraid timbha but if you can remember the date & time of when you bought your ticket and had your ticket taken away from you by an rpo then I would put that to FCC and fight your case with them. On a personal note I would never hand over my ticket in those circumstances without a reciept.

As with any company mistakes will happen (Although in my case I pray to god it never does) but if you have a genuine mix up on things then fight it all the way timbha.
