Do we ever hear mention of Brighton being the largest city in England never to have had a top flight football team, I think not, who has that accolade I wonder?

I mentioned it earlier and Wikipedia confirms it.

"Hull is the largest city in Europe never to have had a club play in the top division", from Hull City A.F.C Wikipedia.

Strike, I was attempting a mix of irony and sarcasm, however I am aware that this type of humour is beyond the comprehension of many. What it really says, for those who failed to see the point, is that Hull should be aspiring to our achievements, four seasons in the top flight and a cup final to boot, rather than us trying to achieve theirs.

Taylor is top draw - he did a great job here if only some people realised this - his signing of jr lewis was the difference between play offs and the title.

By coincidence, I just finished Gullhanger by Mike Ward -- and how much finding that took in the States you can't imagine -- and it gave one bloke's take on the time Taylor spent managing the Albion. He at least was gutted when Taylor bailed....

He wasn't at the time though.

I think people are being a little harsh on Taylor. He did a great job, though he sulked off in a paddy because Dick wouldn't give him more pocket money.

On these quotes though, if you ignore the aspiring bit, he is actually supporting our fight for the stadium, so give him some credit.

Excellent point!

I would also like to know where all there new fans have come from?

I always remember them being one of the worst supported teams in the old 2nd Division!!

They have never brought a large following to Brighton ever 200 max!!!

I wonder what their average gates were at Boothferry Park in the 70's, 80's and '90's, my guess is that they struggled to get over 7000 !!!!

Big club :lolol:

At this point in Time Hull are ahead of us by some distance. Much better crowds and a MUCH better ground. When we get Falmer we will be of similar stature to them in terms of attendance Id imagine.

We have a much better league record of late though!!

The following is taken from TEAMTalk

Hull boss Peter Taylor believes former club Brighton are "another Hull City in the making" ahead of this weekend's Championship encounter.

Taylor took the Seagulls to the League One title in 2002 to bounce back in style from his ill-fated time at Leicester.

It was a short-lived spell on the south-coast, however, as Hull quickly came calling to lure Taylor to the KC Stadium in May 2002.

The Tigers chief said: "I was only at Brighton for a short time but I thoroughly enjoyed my time there.

"It's a massive club and I just hope they can finally get the new stadium that their fans deserve.

"Look at the progress Hull have made as a club since moving to the KC Stadium. I hope Brighton can do something similar because they are a potential Hull City in the making."

Potential Hull City in the making - bloody cheek!

Peter Taylor is being a patronising git. When you consider that Hull only rose up the leagues after they had the KC Stadium, while we did it before them on miniscule crowds at Withdean, it shows that we're already more successful they they are. We also happened to win back to back championships, not back to back second place.
