I don't understand this attitude. Two of the best WCs I've seen were the 1974 and 1978 ones, graced by that superb Dutch team. Every football fan was purring about some of those games,.

Or take the Brazil v Italy games in 1970 and and 1982, both after England got knocked and two of the best games I've ever seen. The idea of not watching them because England weren't there seems truly bizarre.

Well obviously the standard is better as it's the final stages but I just can't work up and enthusiasm once England are out. The games may be enjoyable but its just not the same for me when there's not an England game round the corner to look forward to.
