Not stupid at all. Last season we were only good if you looked at the results and not the play. We were only well placed towards the end of the year because of a number of scetchy wins, Wolves comes straight to mind, by the end of the season our luck ran out and without Palace beating Fulham we were gone. This time around we are similarly placed but instead of lucky wins we have had the results go against us. We have had the issue of draws rather than wins for a couple of seasons now. At least this time around we deserve to be winning. Get Trossard, and Alzate feeding Connolly, Maupay, and Murray and the wins will come.

Yes, resident miserablists. Read the thread for the other ways to look at our current situation.

Optimists will be looking at midtable security (maybe even sneaking into the top half) once we ride our the adjustment period of changing our system. Pessimists (Miserablists - see your post) will be looking at going down (see your post). Who will be right?

Well that remains to be seen of course but I suspect it will be somewhere inbetween (where we sit now).

2 losses in 6. 1 against the champions, 1 having played an hour with ten men.

We have the same number of points from this list of games as last year and a slightly better goal average. The only points we took from these six games last year were from two tight 1-0 wins against West Ham and Newcastle. We lost the other 4. The two wins last year could have easily been draws and the two this year could easily have been wins. Fine Margins as Chris always said.

Fine margins, because everyone in the division is very competitive. The 'crap teams' we have played have all managed to stay in the Premier League for as long as, or longer than we have. Given that everyone we have played finished above us last year, surely the base expectation level would be fairly low. What makes you assume that in the very early days of a new system we should automatically be beating these 'crap teams' and that not doing so means relegation?

It's never going to be easy in the Premier League, but the early signs are good. This is not about 'nice football', it's about steady improvement in all areas. So far, compared to last year, possession is better, chances created is better, expected goals is better, control of games is better, away form is better, fitness levels seem better, defending seems as good. The atmosphere in the stadium seems much improved and fan satisfaction with the direction in which we seem to be heading seems much better. What would you say is worse?

My feeling is that under Chris Hughton we were at the end of what he can achieve with his method of playing and tactics. Surviving each year was the best we could expect. I feel like under Potter we are at the beginning of what he can achieve. If we can sort out the finishing problem then who knows where this style of football could take us.

Will he be successful? Who knows but it will be exciting to find out.

Playing well away from home. At home the results have not come, although Burnley, Southampton and West Ham are looking stronger this year than they were last so no disgrace with draws. Much too early to draw conclusions BUT the real problem is that we are short on goals and we have made ourselves short up front. We have not helped our own cause.

Currently the table is:

15th BHA 6 points
16th Norwich 6 points
17th Newcastle 5 points
18th Aston Villa 4 points
19th Wolves 4 points
20th Watford 2points

No one gets relegated in September but without scoring or winning games - hard fixtures against Chelsea & Spurs coming up - it’s not looking good ...

Crystal Palace v Norwich
Wolves v Watford
Leicester v Newcastle

I think we’ll be 18th & after Spurs match 19th

It would probably be our best result if we beat Chelsea away since being in the Premier - but without BHA rose tinted glasses on - I believe we have the worst away record in the league for clubs that have been in the top flight for 2 seasons + this season. 6 away wins! .....

Would need odds of 50/1 for me to put a few quid on the Albion winning on Saturday ..

So if come this time next week we are in the relegation zone, you're saying the only way we can get out of it is by sacking a manager less than 8 games into his tenure?


I don't wish to patronise you Spence, as I don't know how old you are, but were you about in 88/89, we lost the first 8 games, including a 2 leg League cup exit to Southend, didn't panic, didn't sack the manager, Barry Lloyd, and stayed up.


Different times I know, but surely you can see that Potter potentially is a far, far better manager than CH at this level, and once we start firing on all cylinders, ie scoring goals, a 13/14/15th finish is not beyond us, and comfortably clear of the bottom 3?

So be it. If we are I’ll live with it, I am super impressed with GP and believe that he is the perfect man for the job. I may be wrong but that’s how I feel on what my eyes have told me so far this season.

I think its the difference between the views of those who watch the team home and away to those that don't. Away matches last season were dire and not enjoyable. I didn't go to Newcastle but still watched it. IMO Watford and Man City were enjoyable away experiences despite what the final results were. Fans who don't go are not bothered about the performance only how many points we come away with. Yes, that is the be all and end all of a league match BUT we pay to be entertained as well and they way we are playing IS entertaining me, long may it continue.

Realistically 4 points from 9 away from home so far is a decent return, that's 10th in the table, above Spurs and Man Utd. Just need to score goals that is the only weak link at the moment and get our home form going.

Last season Home games were mostly dire too but the dwindling membership of the Hughton fan club seem to have forgotten that. I'd much rather watch us with Potter in charge. He is no mug and will know what needs to be done to get us scoring goals.
