With only two cinemas, five nightclubs and no sports teams or music venues - compared with 15 undertakers and 50 old people's homes - Worthing is clearly not a great place to be young, the survey concludes.

Surely there is Worthing Utd ? Where do our reserves play ?

Maybe this explains exactly why most of Harty's callers are old dears who never go to the game - he has met them through his professional connections ( nothing like a good funeral for a nice natter, eh Harty ? ) and is trying to chat them up in order to get them to remember him in their wills.

In terms of things to do for young people Hastings offers quiet a variety.

There's drug dealing, drug taking, joy riding, mugging, student bashing, etc.

It must be a great town because in the last ten years large numbers of people have come from all over Eastern Europe to stay.

Ok....having grown up in Bexhill, but lived in Worthing for the last 11 years, give me the later any day! The author of this piece has clearly done little research. No sports teams? We have Worthing FC in the Ryman plus United in the County league! No live Music venue's?.....Bollocks! It's patchy and confined to the pubs, but it's there. OK, both cinema's are fleapits, but there were/are plans to develop Teville gate into a multiplex complex. As for nightlife, I would say there's no more or less pubs & nightclubs than any other town of a comparable size. Chappel road has plenty of tacky Yates style theme bars to keep any under age drinker happy!

Worthing may not be utopia, but I'd rather live there than Bexhill, Hastings, Crawley or littlehampton for example!

I think thats a tad unfair on Worthing, for a town of it's size 5 mightclubs is pretty good. I grew up there and me and my mates did moan about it a bit but once you get an idea of what other towns are like it's no worse than a lot of places in fact positive better than alot of others.

I will say however in the last 3 or 4 years it has gone down hill, too many chain pubs attracting the knuckledragging pikeys that have increased in Worthing.

Half the time my mates and i settled for Worthing as it was a lot less hassle and expense than dragging over to Brighton and getting home again.

Nothing wrong with Eastbourne. Grew up there, one stat I knew in mid eighties ok, but it had 9 nightclubs in a square mile.

Names wilol have changed etc but I'll try and list them.

TJ's
Roxy on the pier.
Shimmers
Kalebs
One in the precinct (mainly Gay I think)
Cloisters (Grab a Granny)
Gullivers
Ziggy's
(I am sure there was 1 more but can't think of it now.)

Plus 164 licensed bars. Plenty to get chucked out of then !!!
