ORIENT PART COMPANY WITH BRUSH OFFICIAL STATEMENT ISSUED AT 18.15 ON SEPTEMBER 27 2003

LEYTON ORIENT officially announce that manager Paul Brush has parted company with the club with immediate effect.

Chairman Barry Hearn informed Brush of the decision after the defeat at Huddersfield, which leaves the O’s 23rd in the Division Three table with just seven points from the first ten games of the season.

”Unfortunately results have not been good enough and Paul has accepted that, Hearn said. “Paul has been completely dedicated and professional in his approach to the job, and we’re sorry things haven’t worked out. I have spoken to him after the defeat at Huddersfield and we have agreed to part company. It is a shame, but it is a decision that has been made with Leyton Orient’s best interests at heart – our results have to improve.”

Assistant Manager Martin Ling has been appointed Caretaker Manager for the immediate future and will take charge of the side at Carlisle United on Tuesday.

Serious applications for the post of First Team Manager are invited.

Let me get this right, a statement was released at 6.15? On the day the O's lost 3-0 at Huddersfield?

How on earth is Brush going to get home? I presume that he won't be welcome on the team bus! Has he got to catch the train or even thumb a lift home? Or maybe he is on the bus? Maybe he's sitting at the front of the bus like a naughty boy? If the players are sitting at the back playing 'knuckles' he can't exactly give them a bollockig! I could understand Hearn wanting to fire him, but why not wait until Monday? Heartless bastard!

Barry Hearn sacked Paul Brush last night - in a mobile phone call to the beleaguered Orient boss

Shouldn't that read
"...in a mobile phone call to the soon-to-be de-leagued Orient..."?
